| Hi guys Thanks to your comments on my previous threads which convinced me to buy a 2002 Elegance Tdi Octavia saloon recently & the extra 20 horses are really worthwhile. Just about to put her in for a service & I've been quoted some wildly varying figures in South West London. The car had the air & fuel filters & the cambelt changed last service so I only need a a straightforward inpection service but I have been quoted £180 by one dealer & £310 by another just 15 miles away. Any thoughts & what are others paying out there for a standard service? Cheers RearAd

| I've been paying just under £100 for an inspection in Glasgow, on a labour rate of £50 an hour! I don't see any way that even the £180 can be justified, never mind the £310. |

| £310 would be about right for a main dealer (if slightly high) for the main 40k/80k etc. service (which wouldn't include cambelt which you could expect to pay a similar amount for again!). |

| I'm thinking of moving to Scotland, Ken. :~} In fairness Kandy, this is an intermediate service at 55k as the last service was the big one at 43k with all the expensive stuff done then. Are other people really paying these prices for the most basic service? Also, I can't understand why there should be such a marked difference between two dealers so close to each other. RearAd

| Ah, the 50some K, and one at 62k were done just before I bought the car. All I've done since is 2 inspections, brake fluid change and coolant change. I know it's not scheduled, but I do not believe that G12 lasts forever. Inspection + listed fluid changes was about £180 including all fluids, and the car being washed. |

| my last service was around £200 for just and inspection (oil change). I did however have some other work done too which bumped the price up a bit. My service was carried out at Awesome GTI which were £30 cheaper than I was quoted by a Skoda Main Dealer |

| Just in case it helps anyone else, the £180 price was ex. VAT for an annual service whereas the £310 quote was inc. VAT for an extended service that's supposed to last 2 years or 20,000 miles. Any personal preferences on which service schedule is better, i.e. annual or extended servicing & whether extended servicing really is good for 2 years subject to the 20,000 mile proviso? Cheers RearAd

| £180 ex Darling's Dosh = £211-50 with. Surely there's more than just 4l of 506 oil in the higher quote to cover switching to variable? |

| I have just had a major service done at a well known and trusted local independant garage on my 1.9TDi on 88k. I paid £140 for the service, but he called me up and said brake fluid change was advised at £38, and a Diesel flush at £35 on top, therefore making the cost around £215. Is this a good price? It's been a while since I paid for someone to service a car of mine, normally did the ol' oil, plugs and filters myself on my other (petrol) cars.. One thing I thought strange, I would of expected the glow plugs to be changed, but the guy in the garage reckons you only change them when they need doing ![]() Is this right??Last edited by ShadyAl; 25-06-2008 at 10:48. |

| Was also told oil in the climate control was low, and a total refurb, i.e regas, oil and something ele (Im not an expert lol!!) for £70 to get it going again.. I said no, as I have heard about the climate control on Octavias being a bit dodgy and didnt want to throw another £70 away if it wasnt going to make my (very crappy) C.Control any colder.. Was that a sensible decision? |

| Given that you're in Herts, I don't think the inspection was too bad, the brake fluid change (if required) was maybe slightly cheap, never heard of a diesel flush, but you only change glow plugs when they die. They're only used to heat the combustion chambers when starting the car, rather than several times a second the whole the engine's running, and work on 12v rather than several kilovolts. I'd say the Climate service would be sensible, because Climatronic does much more than just "cold air when it's hot in the car". It supplies temperature and humidity controlled air any time the outside air temperature is above 5C (or maybe 7C). 70 notes doesn't seem too bad a price either. Oh and think of it this way; the colder it delivers when on maximum chill, the less time it has to do that for! |
