Question Temperature Warning (brrrr)

Hi, apologies if this has been asked before - but I have had a look through the forums and can't find anything.

A few weeks ago - when it was very cold - the temperature warning light on the dashboard of my 2001 Octavia 1.9TDI started to flash. I pulled over, turned off the engine and looked through the hand book.

The book said that the temperature was too hot or too cold. Although the car was garaged overnight I could confirm that it was indeed a bit parky!

So - none the wiser - I started the engine. No flashing temperature warning! I assumed the engine had warmed up and it never came on again. everyting was fine... Until a week or so later when it was very cold again. I drove the car for a bit further this time but the flashing temperature wasning didn't go off 'till I turned the engine off and on again.

Is this normal behaviour? Any help would be welcome.

Cheers. David.

Common problem, faulty coolant sensor on the expansion tank. The light is alerting you to low coolant, well it thinks its low. Get the sensor changed and all will be well again.

i think that some people have reported that just cleaning the 'metal prongs' in the tank and that did the trick. Cheaper and easier!!! Must be worth giving it a go!

I agree with @mbames, mine does same thing and I have been told to clean it.
