Default Today I've mainly been.....

....replacing my wiper linkage!

On Thursday coming home from work my wipers stuck in the up position and I wondered why!

And on reading here, I found the linkages seize. So today I went to my local dealer (Claybank, whom I highly commend for having the park on the shelf) And bought a new one. Being Ł45 lighter, and having been quoted Ł70+ for fitting I decided to have a go myself.

Got the scuttle panel off without fault, and got the old linkage out with a problem. But I did hit a problem trying to remove the control arms and motor from the old linkage (but a local garage got those off me for FOC!!!) And I proceeded to put it all back together then.

Its all back together now but my wipers are sitting higher than they were (with no matter how much i adjust them, as If have them right they go down abit on the first stroke and hit the bottom of the screen, dunno why its doing this yet mind!)

But all is well thought as atleast I have working wipers! And you should see the original part, its seized solid on one side, can't believe they worked at all with it the way it was!!

Cheers

Craig

Motor align is not quite correct. Only thing you can do is have a play. I marked mine with tip-ex before disassembly... :-)

I look my linkage apart, sanded the corrosion down, and packed them out with grease. They have been fine for the last 18 months since I did that.

They are quite a tight squeeze to get them out aren't they. I kicked myself once for putting a linkage back in and forgetting to connect the plug to the motor.

Yup, I have two cuts on my hand! And I did that too! Forgot to connect the motor back up, and put the ignition on, and nothing happened. My heart nearly stopped thinking I'd have to shell out Ł80 for a new motor till I realised!

you need to do the nut up on the linkage to the motor with the arms parallel to the right so the nut is hidden under the linkage if you get what i mean, otherwise it will be slightly out of sink

How do you mean the motor align isn't right?

As it was put straight back in the same position as it came out?

It's not the motor to frame alignment that's out, it's the alignment of the crank on the motor splindle that's wrong.

The motor goes round and round the one way, and the crank arrangement between there and the wiper arms converts round and round into 90 degrees forwards, 90 deg back.

Hmmm, I'm sure I put it back in as I took it off.

Unless the arms can be in the wrong position?

The motor crank arm can be mis-aligned on the motor spindle, which puts the self-park position out. It doesn't take much to move the wipers an inch or 2 up from the normal park position. Been there, done that...

I'll try and pull the lot back out if I can be bothered.

Part of my head says leave it the hell alone as I now have working wipers!
