ok. so i checked the level and it was down. only really just touching the tip of the dip stick. ive topped it up to the correct level with Comma CHF 11S (which is to spec). but obviously the fluid cant just dissapear! so i gave the plumbing a good look over, and it appears that the reservoir is leaking. it looks like its weeping from where the two halves of the reservoir join. anyone else had this happen? how much is a new reservoir? can i get a fancy ally one?!

So nobody else has had a leaking reservoir then?? Just me? Now i've topped it up and put it to full lock both ways a couple of times, the noise has gone away. Must have been air in the system form being low on fluid.

| I think a few people have had issues with the fluid leaking into the rack boots so if it vanishes again that could be a first port of call.

as you've found, low fluid causes the rack to be more audible. I'm sure I could get the alloy tanks manufactured, but its all a case of cost.

cheers guys. yeah i got a price from my local skoda garage and skodaparts.com for the reservoir. both at around £22 inc. vat. pretty reasonable i thought. and im guessing a one-off ally one would be pretty pricey, so i think ill leave that one! ill keep my eyes peeled for leaks next time the level drops. i'm new to all this power steering lark you see......
