Default 2.0TDI vrs 3 Warning lights on.

Hello All,

My Octavia Vrs diesel was put up on the back of a tow truck this morning and brought to my nearest skoda dealer to sort out a few problems i have encountered yesterday.

1) Engine management light came on---all going well at this stage, no problem.

2) Particulate Filter Light came on---all going well still .

3)Glow plug light came on---engine power cut and goes into limp home mode.

These 3 things happened within 1hour.

I have had the car back to the dealer on another occasion when the EML came on, the car was only a few weeks old at the time. It turned out to be the glow plug relay which they replaced very quickly for me.

I have the car 9months and have covered 29,000kms, i find the car handles and drives well but i dont like the noise from the tyres or wind i dont know which, maybe a bit of both, I decided last earlier this week that i couldnt live with it any longer and have ordered a skoda superb of which i have had 2 already. I know the handling and performance are no match for the vrs but i find after having it this while that it not as enjoyable as i thought it would be, maybe im just getting too old.

Im a bit disappointed with the car to say the least and will be glad when it finally goes back to the dealer for the last time. Thanks for listening to my whinging.

Aw c'mon give the car (and your dealer a chance).

The problems you have will be fixed under warranty (sorry to hear) and tyre noise can easily be cured with the correct tyre (NOT Continental) & with 29,000 km you ought to be due some new tyres soon.

Sounds like the different stages of DPF blockage (should be in your manual).

Stage one the DPF light comes on warning the filter is starting to get backed up, drive at a constant speed to burn off the soot.

Stage two stage one hasnt worked, the EML now comes on, dealer visit to reset the DPF

Stage three coil light comes on and IIRC this means the filter is blocked and cant regenerate. If it gets to 90% saturation then its knackered, the diagnostic equipment wont allow you to regenerate because if that must soot burnt it could lead to a fire.

Would that be anything to do with the relay issue Ross?

Possible, but needs to get the dealer to have a look and see what fault codes are up.

What was the outcome?

My wife's Octavia VRS has now done some 26000 miles, on a 56 plate, and has been back to the dealer on numerous ocassions for both glow plug light faults ( approx 3 days after delivery ) and Engine Management warning light faults ( nearly every couple of months ). On the last visit, the Boost pressure sensor was changed, and 3 days after the management warning light was back on.

Today we have the 3 light scenario. Particle filter light, engine management light, and finally the flashing glow plug light, with the limp home bit.

I am now getting rather brassed off, any ideas ?

Thanks

Thumbs down Re: 2.0TDI vrs 3 Warning lights on.

Am also suffering exactly the same - and now in low power limp home mode. Am waiting for Skoda roadside assistance to come help as local (to where I am now) dealers seemed (Taunton) less than happy to get involved

Already been waiting 2 hours+ - not happy if at road side with wife n kids.

Will post on finding any updates to this seemingly common story.

Strange that had just bought for first time some higher grade fuel .... connection, me thinks???? Thought the DPF light had comeon twice before and then cleared.

I'd been stuck behind lorry on A roda max 40mph for at least an hour, thus possibly no way of clearing DPF out? Low power mode can be dangerous - max 45mph up hill on dual carriageway - not impressed.

DPF is blocked, no physical fault with the vehicle... if you read the manual it tells you what you must do to prevent this happening.

My tdi vrs has had the glow plug fixed, a software upgrade I was told. I drove around using low revs and a lot of town driving, the EML can come on very quickly. I find you have to give it a good drive out as per the manual. I also think that the car likes to be driven, give it plenty of acceleration, mpg also seems better that way.

I have the same problem on my car. My dealer says that DPF has to be replaced with a new one. The old one is completly blocked and cannot be opened. Just passed 45000 km. Have to drive around in limp mode for 3 weeks now.

Apparently if you use your car around town the DPF clogs up quickly, the car needs to be driven regularly at speeds > 56MPH (100kmh) to allow the regeneration process to take place. If the filter becomes to clogged then it must be replaced.

I am glad my 2.0TDI doesnt have a DPF, the only octavia to have one is the TDI vRS.

If you get it changed and have to pay I'd ask to keep the old one.

I have a theory that if you heat the thing in a high temp over (not a home one, hotter than that) then the cruft might burn off. Failing that a decent solvent wash through the item in question may also remove the carbon deposits.

If you have an old dead DPF for free, then it's probably worth trying the solvent wash.

I have just had exactly the same scenario on my 56 plate VRS. The Exhaust pressure sensor was faulty and replaced (unfortunately with another faulty one - I have given the dealer the benefit of the doubt on this). It has since received a functioning sensor and is working again. For how long is anyone's guess - I'm still to see if this has cured the hesitation I've been experiencing on full throttle acceleration especially in 3rd and 4th gears since new.
Have to say the DPF is a shot in the foot. Yes it has helped from a company car tax pov and enabled me to get a vRS in the first place but I don't think it was well enough tested and resolved before launch (or since it seems...)

Just looking around in other threads and was amazed to find this one!

See my postings in "Control system for exhaust gases warning light"

Starting with......Hi I have just joined.

I have a bit of a problem with my car at the moment as follows.....!

1) Control system for exhaust gases warning light came on Good Friday
2) Car to dealer last Saturday and fault cleared after second attempt
3) Light came back on last Tuesday and Skoda Assist used to tow to dealer
4) Exhaust pressure sensor replaced Thursday, but light came back on afterwards!
5) Took car back in. Dealer said that the replaced sensor was faulty!
6) Due for repair next Tuesday............?

Anyone any similar problems with their vRS TDi's recently?

Can't wait to get may car back

Etc...........

Just realised that you had already drawn my attention to this thread, but without me realising. Thanks for the help.

You had exactly the same problem as I have just had. Have you resolved it now?

It's maybe worth reiterating that when I last visited the local dealer, the showroom was adorned with official Skoda leaflets about the DPF, its operation, care and maintenance. There must be an awful lot of unhappy people out there to warrant SUK to print/publish such a leaflet.
Glad to say that my new 08 OctyII will not have any of this DPF malarkey!

If the pressure sensor hasnt fixed the problem then there may be a blockage in the pipes.

there have been some known issues of moisture trapped in the lines freezes in the cold weather we had a few weeks back and blocks the line.
