Default Broken Windscreen Wiper Stalk

First off I'll just say that I've been reading this forum for a while and it is an excellent resource.

This morning whilst driving to work some f**kwit decided to drive on the wrong side of the road and headed straight for me. In the ensuing braking chaos I somehow managed to break the windscreen wiper stalk and the said f**kwit drove off in a hurry without me getting my hands on them or taking their number plate .

Anyway, i've managed to source a replacement but I was wondering how easy/difficult would it be to replace the stalk myself? It looks as if I would neeed to remove the streering column housing but I'm not sure how I would go about this. Am I better off taking it to a stealers?

Any tips/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

If you are not confident playing around with airbags then pay somebody to do it as an airbag module is very expensive and dangerous too.

There is a guide on :

Octavia-vrs.com

That details taking the stalks off for fitting cruise IIRC.

Anyway if you do take a go at it yourself make sure you disconnect the battery and give it half hour or before you touch it.

Thanks for the reply. I did check Stu's website but it looks as if the cruise control fitting guide has been removed.

Anyway, if it involves removing the airbag then I think I'll leave it to the pros. Thanks again.
