Some of you may have seen a few threads on this in the Fabia section, so I tried this on the VRS a couple of weeks ago....

IIRC the Octy Mk2 has gold plated connections on he MAF so is unlikely to suffer from corrosion? That plus your car is relatively new

You basically coat the MAF electrical connectors with dielectric silicone grease. The Fabia drivers who did this have found it makes their car run and idle smoother, but it made very little difference on the Mondeo and it sounds like it doesn't make much difference to the Octy either

I think for the 17705 problem I had the dealer replaced some MAF connections with gold ones, I couldn't understand the reasoning at the time......didn't fix it anyway

My Dad did it on his 05 Reg VW Touran 2.0 TDI DSG at the same time, he has seen significant mpg gains since.... seems it may just be a TDI 'thing', although I can't understand why

It probably returns the sensor/signals to normal if the engine has been running less efficiently due to poor sensor/bad signals rather than actually increasing something's performance.

Afterall, the only thing the grease does is guarantee a stable "zero" resistance (ie normal clean metal to metal contact) connection, instead of any corrosion creating either resistance or a capacitive gap that my recieve inductive RF noise or sparking causing signal spikes.
