Creaking suspension on Octy II

Since about 9000 miles my Octavia II has suffered rather badly from noisy creaking suspension when going over speed humps or other uneven road surfaces.

It's noticably worse when the car is first driven on a cold day but is there even when it's warm.

The dealer has agreed that this is a fault after a few visits and it should be getting sorted in a few weeks when whatever parts it needs arrive.

I've seen a few other people mention this , so does your Octy II suffer from this creaking?

When did it start , and has it been to a dealer about this?
If so , what did they do?

Re: Creaking suspension on Octy II

Mine also does it, it seems more noticable now. Only 8k miles on mine.
Not been to a dealer yet
I'd have to agree about driven first thing on a cold day, but is there when warm (when 1st driven but goes out of it).

Please keep me posted on what gets changed an if its sorts it.

Re: Creaking suspension on Octy II

Mine too -

I have some speed bumps to negotiate when I first leave home and it creaks while driving over these. Sounds like the noise is coming from the rear (a bit like a creaky mattress ) but I dont hear it once the cars warmed up.

Its not bothering me enough to book it in just yet. Ill get them to look while its in for 1st service (early next year).

Let us know how you get on with yours doctor.

Re: Creaking suspension on Octy II

Mines started creaking now at 18,000 miles, I will mention it at next service. So far not as impressed as I thought I would be with it ! Climate control problems, trim vibrations, water leaking from passenger door, screeching electic window, now the creaking suspension. Maybe the Mazda 6 was a better choice after all !!!

Just had the car serviced ( 20,000 miles )and the creaking problem looked at. Rear tie rod found to be faulty, dealer has ordered a new one to be fitted soon along with a new windscreen that has delaminated.

Will update when the job is completed !

Re: Creaking suspension on Octy II

I've hit the 20,000 KM mark in my RS and I've started to notice a creaking in the front right suspension. It's only noticeable at low speeds and not all the time. It's being serviced on Monday so we'll see what they say...

Re: Creaking suspension on Octy II

Just read "EVO December 06" There long term Vrs has " a faint knocking noise coming from the front suspension"
Will be going into the dealers to get it looked at.
Have to see what happens.

Mine creaks and knocks too, at 23k. Will mention it at the next service. Thought it was just my driving style

Guys I'd be interested to hear what cures it on yours. Mine will be looked at in a few weeks... the guy I deal with in dealers is away at the minute.

Re: Creaking suspension on Octy II

Well , I've collected it from the garage this morning and so far it seems ok , though I won't know for sure till I drive over some speedbumps.

The parts they replaced are

N91021601 - 2 * nuts
6N0412249C - 2 * bearings
1K0412331B - 2 * bush
N91040601 - 1 * bolt
1K0407272EN - 1 * driveshaft
N90991102 - 4 * Bolts

So it looks like they did the suspension bushes and the driveshaft that was worn because the gaitor had split.

When I reverse my car and lock the steering I get a grating noise. Happened this morning. Anyone else?

There was an issue on the initial Steering rack something like that. Was it flat or did surface change ?

I thought the steering rack issue was sorted around the time I got mine....it was on the demo I drove (only happened at low speed)

Did the dealer say why they have worn already, and if the new bushes were modified to prevent it happening again in the future?

Did the creaking appear to come form the rear of the car, mine seems to be rear nearside and only when going over speed bumps ( not fast ) !

Re: Creaking suspension on Octy II

It turns out not to have made any difference at all.

The service centre manager was polite and apologetic on the phone when I just rang so I'll give them one last chance to put it right and then take it from there

That sounds alright of them, they seem eager to sort it.

Had they actually said the gaitor had split ? If so then it wasn't a wasted visit .

Initially I actually thought it was coming from movement in my bootlid, then I thought it was the front. Its one of those kind of noises that you don't know where the hell its coming from. I think it happens when suspension is extended and about to compress. I have found it coming out the slow of my driveway onto the road with lock on. Happens when I reach the road.

Re: Creaking suspension on Octy II

The gaitor had split and they had spotted this on the first visit , but were insistent that the driveshaft was ok.

On the second visit they replaced the gaitor and said the driveshaft needed replacing......

Oh , and they didn't phone me back as they promised.....
