Question Decisions Decisions....? Help!!

hi guys, Please help, i am considering an upgrade within the next few months or so, possibly even an 09 plate upgrade, I really want an Octy II VRS but i cannot decide which one to go for;

Diesel is more to buy but cheaper on insurance (I am 22)

Petrol is cheaper to buy but then more to insure

Diesel is more fuel efficient but then i have heard to expect £2.30/litre by Apr 2009
so a petrol one would be cheaper to run

petrol is dearer to tax but diesel is dearer to service/maintain...

There are so many +ve and -ve for each one I just cannot way up the pros and cons

I have also heard that they are going to a commonrail diesel engine, is this any good
and is it twin turbo charged??

List of Volkswagen Group diesel engines - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

surely must be good for 250bhp if it is?

please help. thanks

Hi,

I would definately wait for the Common Rail if you sway towards diesel in the next few months, then again it may also be worth waiting for the so-called face-lift that some people here are mentioning too (for future re-sale).

Can't really help you with Diesel or Petrol choice as I have to use diesel because of 30k miles per year, but otherwise I would go for the petrol for the rev range smoother power delivery & quietness!!

If the VAG commonrail is anything like everyone else's, then go for the TFSI.

EGR, DPF, AFM, high pressure fuel pumps - all pretty common and expensive failures on commonrails. EGR is £150-ish, DPF are a nightmare, high press. pump is a couple of grand.

I've been a diesel man for years, and really I think the next time I'll be looking for a petrol. I only do 20k a year, so diesel is now not worth it for me economically due to the diesel price and increased servicing costs compared to petrol. Then there's the smell of the fuel - try filling a diesel without ending up covered in the stuff even with gloves...

Keeping an eye out for a vRS TFSI in the next few months
