Default Differences in Model Years 2006-2008

Skoda differences in model years.

At the weekend I picked up my new 2008 Octavia 1.9TDi Elegance Estate, trading in my 2006 Octavia 1.9TDi Elegance Estate with 20,500 miles on it. Whilst the two cars were together, and subsequently, I have noticed quite a few changes in fixtures and fittings between the two models, and I thought that I would share my findings with you all. This may be a bit anoraky (if there is such a word) but feel free to find something else to do!

The differences on the new 2008 car that I (and the wife) have noticed are:

1. The front seat pans are slightly shorter
2. The fabric (both Onyx) is different on all of the seats - softer and less rough
3. The fabric covering the door cards is different - again softer and less rough
4. The clutch is totally different - lighter and more controllable
5. The brakes are less ‘snatchy’
6. The steering wheel is smaller - but the new car does have the multi-function controls - but it is definitely smaller, nonethless.
7. The 12V socket in the luggage area doesn’t have the automatically sprung clip, but a rubberised cover - not as good as the old model.
8. The Stream radio is different in sound and functionality.
9. The front foglights are subtley different and have different lamps inside.
10. There is no manual level control for the headlights - but it does have HIDs.
11. The engine is significantly quieter - I know it is only 60 miles old at the moment.
12. The tyres are different to the ones fitted to the old car.
13. The luggage net affixments and clips are different
14. The alert noise for seatbealt non-fastening (and other things) is more pleasant (if an alert noise can be pleasant)
15. The battery is bigger in capacity (61-70AH)
16. The suspension is different, and smoother.
17. There is a warning light for the Cruise Control in the speedometer.
18. The swivelling covers for the net brackets in the boot are plastic instead of shiny Chrome plated metal.
19. The retractable load cover has a stronger spring
20. The seat belts are easier to pull out - the inertia reels are different.
21. The decals on the steering column wands are slightly different
22. The alarm beeps when it is set.
23 The material from which the keys are made is slightly different.
24. There seem to be considerable differences under the bonnet with the routing of hoses etc.
25. The floor mat affixments are different.

That sucks, one of the reasons I bought my Octavia were the unusually long seat squabs. I've got a 36" inside leg and the bit of extra support is nice.

I like the sound of the new clutch - mine has always been a bit smash and grab.

10. There is no manual level control for the headlights - but it does have HIDs.

thats due to the xenons being a auto adjusting system, so no need for manual adjustment.

11. The engine is significantly quieter - I know it is only 60 miles old at the moment.

thats good to know for customers changing from older A5 to newer ones

16. The suspension is different, and smoother.

i thought i noticed this too, but put it down to the older car a drove being, well, older

17. There is a warning light for the Cruise Control in the speedometer.

that is a small anoyance for me too. ive always had a light to say cruise is working

22. The alarm beeps when it is set.

Do you have the Maxi dot? you can switch this feature on and off via that. or it can be done by VAG.COM i beleive (if you want it swtiched off )

25. The floor mat affixments are different.

did yous come with mats? the latest ones ive seen now dont

handy points to know, thanks!

Hi folks,

Dan the V8 Man - I usually swap cars every 2-3 years, it just so happened that I got a very nice deal for mine in PX, and my monthly payments only went up by a couple of quid, so I changed slightly earlier. I was sorry to get rid of the 06 Octy; it drove very well and consistantly returned over 55 to the gallon. The new one is not doing quite so well, but it is only 125 miles old, as of today. It will improve, of that I have no doubt!

MICKVRS: On my 2006 Octavia, although you could see the symbol in the speedometer, the cruise control symbol definitely did not illuminate.

Woodenspatulas: 1) The suspension is definitely different, in that it doesn't seem to 'drop' into holes like the old one did. There is a lot less suspension 'thump' than the old car too.
2) Yes, the car came with mats
3) Yes, it does have maxi-dot.

Thanks, everyone!

It's probably been turned off - Much better IMHO.

I'm pretty sure the Cruise Indicator was a MY07 introduction.

My September registered 56 plate had it.

It wasn't in mine, it came out sometime around May 2006 IIRC, along with other Maxidot additions, Red Calipers and the MP3

One thing to bear in mind before this gets too heated - Mick's is not a UK Spec but EU spec car.

Most people are talking about UK spec cars.

MY07 from Skoda-auto.com

"Automatic activation of warning lights once the vehicle starts braking abruptly is an important innovation in the Škoda Octavia. Reacting immediately to “panic” breaking, the system activates the warning lights, thus informing other drivers of a potential danger. Other innovations include double sun visors that can be split up to two parts and a cruise control activation light situated in the analogue speedometer area.Vehicles equipped with a dashboard computer and the Maxi-DOT display offer the possibility of setting the following features individually – each door is unlocked individually and locked automatically, an acoustic alert goes off once the anti-theft system is activated, comfortable control of just the driver's window or all windows, separate (electric) control of the left and the right wing mirrors, the sunroof is shut automatically when it starts raining. The portfolio of extra items and features also includes rear seat heating now.

Starting in the Model Year 2007, the tape deck in the Melody radio system has been replaced with a CD player. Besides traditional music CDs, the new Stream radio system makes it possible to play back music CDs in the MP3 format. Useful innovations include an audio signal connection slot located in the Jumbo Box that makes it possible to connect external audio systems (such as iPOD or other types of MP3 players).

RS

The 2007 innovations in the Škoda Octavia RS and the Škoda Octavia Combi RS mainly involve the outside design – the vehicles are now available in new body colours (yellow Sprint and white Candy) and the disc brake callipers are painted red. Tinted glass in wing mirrors is now a standard part of the equipment."
