Default ECU Remapping

Has anyone ever heard of a ECU being "locked out" by a main dealer to stop the software being extracted through the serial port ?? This is what a Tuner is telling me is the case with my 2.0Tdi, he is telling me he needs to take out my ECU to get it on a bench. I think he is just trying to create LABOUR !! Any info greatly appreciated.

Yup what Tom said.

Take it to someone who offers Revo or one of the big name tuners. It might be more expensive but a proper tuner would solve that issue in minutes rather than tell you about it

Thanks Tom, its the Irish Upsolute agent, I think my remap was wiped in the main dealers during a turbo replacement and it just requires a reload of the software I have already paid for. I think this agent is just trying to save himself a free remap. Thanks for the advice.

REVO will upload for free if you ever have to replace parts etc (once you have already bought the original code of course!!!)

If its Upsolute then id contact the main agent to see what they say as im sure that they would like to hear about it if one of their agents is being a little underhanded

I don't know what Upsolute do these days but in years gone by there were piggy back chip tuners which obviously would have meant the ECU being opened.

These days it's nearly all done via OBD. If you have had a dealer software update then it probably will have wiped the software off.

Was it bench flashed before? By the same tuner?

Sorry to hear about this, especially as I was thinking of going to what I guess from your location is the same agent and I also possibly share the same Skoda dealer.
I think I read on thier web site that older cars had to have the ECU done on the bench but newer vehicles could be done through the port.
There are 3 agents listed in Eire - have you contacted the other 2 to see what they say?

Thanks for all the replys, I took the car back from him and he did not try and charge me for his time. Strangly enough the car feels a bit nippier since I took it back but this could just be the "placebo effect". I will bring the car to a rolling road (westland engineering,enfield,co.meath. REVO agent) for peace of mind before I decide on the next course of action. Stu, he claims and I seem to remember that it was mapped through the port originally(2006) but his Upsolute programme cannot read the mapping software through the port today and he needs to get the ECU on the bench. I think I will leave well enough alone as I hope to get a new Vrs in Jan'09. Thanks for all the interest.

The guy is very pleasent and was always very amiable. The car drove like a demon up until the turbo let go in Dec'07 but during that time I clocked up 130,000 hard kilometers! Feel free to PM me if you want to discuss this dealer further.
