| Just bought a new Octavia Estate. Thought it might be a good idea to be able to play my iPod through the audio system. The dealer wants £100 to install a device to enable me to do this. Anyone know of something a bit less expensive, bearing in mind that I'm not too technical, i.e. can't do it myself, and don't want to upset the warranty. Cheers |

| £100 seems to be about the going rate for a hard wired solution, IIRC. You could also look at FM transmitters (or iTrips) which are now legal in the UK. They send an FM signal that your radio can be tuned to, although I guess the sound quality may not be as good as the hard wired option. Thousands of the things on Ebay - maybe someone else can give a specific recommendation as to which ones work best (if any). eBay.co.uk - fm transmitter, fm transmitter Apple iPod Accessories, fm transmitter lcd, itrip, Car Kits items at low prices

| If you want to get an ipod FM thingamy then go for the cradle type that holds the ipod and charges it at the same time. I have gone through a couple and those are the best by far.

| Personally I'd opt for a wired option over any FM one. FM frustrated me to high heaven. I managed to pick something like this eBay.co.uk: VW Audi radio MP3 and ipod auxiliary interface (item 300098938161 end time 15-Apr-07 18:09:52 BST) up from ebay for £30 and then got our car kit guy at work to fit it for £20 cash in hand. Seriously recommended if you know someone (or are brave enough) to fit it. If you want to be able to charge the ipod at the same time, you have 2 options 1) buy a simple ciggy lighter charger for your ipod 2) buy one of these Amazon.co.uk: Belkin Auto Kit for iPod with Dock Connector: Electronics & Photo , and enjoy line out level too |

| Don't go near one of the FM transmitters - they are utter tripe - I tried one (the Belkin model) - bought it from Argos and it went back the next day. Completly rubbish!

| If you are venturing down the route of something like this eBay.co.uk: VW Audi radio MP3 and ipod auxiliary interface (item 300098938161 end time 15-Apr-07 18:09:52 BST) that was posted above make sure you get the right connections, you will need Quadlock compatible for the Octy II. The one the dealer offered you would have been - Octavia-vRS.com - Ipod Adaptor

Mine has good signal, sometimes a bit crackly around London, but not bad at all for £20!
