I've ordered a VRS TDi ..... finally

After many months of thinking about it I have finally placed the order for a VRS TDi for delivery in the first week of July.

The new VRT rates come in here on July 1st so hopefully I'll have it on (or as close as possible to) that date.

The prices DROP that day.

It's standard Irish spec with the addition of Xenons, factory-fitted alarm and parking sensors.

I'm looking forward to it ..... big time.

I reckon even the TVR will get a rest once it arrives.

I picked up my VRS TDi last Thursday (company car so no choice on pre/post July delivery) and I can tell you now you won't be disappointed....I've been taking it fairly easy till I put a few miles on it but no matter how quick I push it it seems to always have loads more in reserve...Incredible to drive and really practical (well, two kids so its my comprimise car)...Absolutely love it...

@Ireland - was DSG on your list of options? Did I see somewhere that DSG is gonna be an option on the New vRS TDi CR engine.

Thinking of purchasing a new VRS TDI. A couple of questions though...what mpg does it achieve in the real world and how does it handle rougher roads...I live in the West of Ireland and most of my driving is done on poorer roads. Also I was wondering how stiff is it (suspension wise) as I have some lower back problems to deal with. Finally I was wondering about hatch or estate? All comments welcome and thanks in advance

I've had mine for about 2 months now from new and so far its been averaging 40mpg with reasonably hard driving, doing about 25 miles per day and most of that being on country roads if thats any help

I'll let somebody else comment on how stiff the suspension etc is, because to me it doesn't feel that stiff at all compared to my last car....

As for hatch or estate, the hatch has about an acre of boot space anyway, so unless you're constantly carrying fridges or massive dogs around, the hatch should be fine.

I found that visibility to the rear was much better from the wagon than the hatch (and IMHO looks better too, but we all know beauty is in the eye of the beholder ).

Its not overly stiff. I know a guy in mayo and he went with the 17's for this reason. The seat is quite firm so maybe best to go actually sit in one for a while as you have back problems.

Who were you thinking about buying it through? What about lining up a test drive with them. I dunno about now but Monahans in Castlebar did have one (but its probably gone now), although with the Diesel VRT chance there sure to have one in stock.

Stays pretty composed but I'd be tempted to stick with 17" wheels to give a more compliant ride and tolerant handling.

It is not overly stiff, spring rates are good but the shock absorbers are pretty firm, which can make the ride somewhat jittery. I cured this by fitting Koni FSD shocks that give tight handling response but flexible/compliant ride; best of both worlds. Seats are good, supportive and comfortable (I speak as a back problem sufferer too). Best overally to get a test drive!
