Talking Just picked up my 2.0 TFSI.......Couple of questions?

Picker the car up yesterday, absolutely awesome. Love it!

Just got a couple of questions, any help much appreciated.

No 1 - Car says super unleaded on the inside fuel cap. Does that mean our UK unleaded is too low octain or is that based on the US low grade. I remember reading that Roz vs Ron ratings are different. Filled her up with V-power today but ideally dont want to keep that up all the time

No 2 - The ESP system seems to be quite intrussive, its reigned me in a few times today. Any of you have any tips and trick for this?

No 3 - Anyone tried out that Milo-tec 6 piece body kit? is very subtle but wondered about the quality as I've never heard of them.

Awesome GTI Store UK - Milotec Skoda styling

Thanks

Ron

Congrats on early Xmas prezzie!

1) 97 RON+ must be used for both best power and sadly to achieve the fuel economy figures, else the Fuel Stratification does not occur (ie "lean burn")

2) Well you could turn it off using the ESP button above ash tray/below a/c controls. Press and hold for 2 secs - dash will light up warning that ESP has been disabled (ESP will reset when you next turn the engine on) - but why would you want to do this? I pressume you are upset that the Traction Control reigned you in today (part of ESP). ESP itself will save you so many times if your drive like a loon I wouldn't turn it off. It will assist you holding a line by braking individual wheels to ensure you follow the steering angle (rather than spin and skid off). This is possibly even more impressive in the dry when it will stop you drifting or under/oversteering at the limit.

As for the TC - sorry, you have a high powered front-wheel-drive car. You have greater power this cold weather and much less grip. If you have less weight on the front wheels than normal (uphill or heavy rear weight) or you simply choose to steer and boot it it will loose traction (which the TC can only cut power to restore)

3) I wouldn't bother - get some more power first

1) Ideally you want to keep running it on V-Power for optimum performance, but I find Tesco 99 Ron works a treat too. As long as you put super unleaded in you'll be fine. You can but ordinary stuff in but with hindered performance.

2) ESP is very intrusive you're correct, I always have mine turned off.

3) IMO the Milotec kit looks really tacky so I would advice against it, but if you want to give it a go then why not? - As long as you like it that's all that matters.

As far as I am aware, the quality of Milotec items are't an issue.

1- I personally use ron99 in my cars. It cant do it any harm putting 97 in but you might see a bit less performance, ideally ron99 is made for very high performance engines but it'll do it no harm, whats a few pence more?

2- Youve just got the car and your wanting to see what it can do, thats why the tracition controll is operating! But screw it, put it off.

3- Pass.

If you want my advice then fill up with either Shell V-Power or Tesco 99 Super Unleaded, putting the 'normal' stuff in will not only hinder performance but will have a detrimental effect on economy and therefore wipe out any savings at the pump!.

I would also leave the ESP switched on unless you are going to go hooning around on a track! The TFSI powerplant produces terific torque which if you use the loud pedal too aggressively will flash like a christmas tree so you may have to adapt your driving style slightly to accomodate

Finally, I'd leave the styling kit alone but that's personal preference and looking at the one that's been shown in a link looks like it may not be compatable with the vRS anyway.

I've used v-power and Sainsbury's 97 and Tesco 97, can't say I can tell much difference in performance or consumption. Higher octane fuel does IMHO contribute to improved fuel consumption and performance, with the engine feeling smoother and more responsive.

1) Sorry you really do need to use the dear stuff

2) Turn off the ESP especially in these icy/crap conditions (you DID opt for LIFE/ GAP insurance didn't you?)

3) Bodykits look excellent on cars, if the kit is subtle ask for the Burberry special edition

Personally I now use Asda's own 95 Ron got fed up with paying £1.05+ for Super Plus when I can get Asda's at 98p a litre with my Asda CC. As for performance difference not noticed any great difference sat in Traffic on the M1/M6/M62 etc and still get 400 to the tank on a good run the same as I did with SuperPlus.

As for performance the vRS is great love it but it is depressing with all that power sat on the M62 out of Manchester at nights doing 20mph if I'm lucky.

Are you all agreed that V-Power is the way to go? Or are other Super Unleaded alternatives viable, such as Texaco 97 Ron Super Unleaded, BP Ultimate etc ????

HTH
do i detect a touch of sarcasm in 2 and 3 - or is there genuinely a "checked" fabric option?

The manual states maximum power is (not surprisingly) from the higher energy density of 97+ RON petrol.

However, as far as fuel consumption (and Fuel Stratification) is concerned this is only possible with Ultra Low Suphur Petrol.

Quote:
Thanks to the knock control, unleaded four star (at least 95 RON) can be used instead of unleaded Super plus. In orderto achieve maximum fuel consumption benefits on the FSI engine, Ultra Low Sulphur Petrol (ULSP) must be used

Thats for the input guys, looking at the body kit I think I'll leave it

As for the expensive fuel, well......i dont drive that many miles anymore so i guess I'll just have to take it on the chin.

I had an IBIZA FR TDI before and it was very very economical. The Octavia seems like a real guzzler but I love it!

I didnt take GAP insurance? I figured it would be a rip off of some kind. I'm not planning on crashing it!

GAP insurance certainly isn't a rip off, it's worth looking into IMO. I wouldn't be without it

It's a 2.0l Turbo charged petrol, what did you expect

I'm just about to move from a Golf 1.9TDI to a Octy VRS TFSI and am under no illusions that I shall be Shelling () out more at the pumps....

Like you say, I think the extra factor is well worth the cost though

I think the TFSI is good for economy and not just for a performance car.

It's not that hard to get 35mpg out of it. It's no worse than a 1.8 Mondeo or Vectra but you still have 200hp to play with when you want.

I came from a 1.5 diesel Clio that averaged 62mpg and I got 86mpg on a 30 mile run once. From that to 30 odd mpg is a shock.

I've always put at least 97 octane in my 2.0FSI 4X4 as I understood that using 95 would screw up the fuel stratification below 4,000 revs. I've tried V-Power but not noticed much difference but it does seem to like BP Ultimate and drives very smoothly with it.

Better than a Vectra

I had a 1.8VVT Vectra for 3 months and to say it had a thirst problem was an understatement. 32mpg was the overall average for it.

SWMBO's Micra dCi used to AVERAGE 63mpg with the normal commute. Her vRS TDI isn't quite as forgiving, she gets about 46mpg with gentle driving. Still a respectable economy considering the 170bhp on tap.
