| Recently purchased a new Octavia Elegance 2.0 TDi PD. Would someone please confirm that the lights should be permanently on whilst driving and is a new safety feature with these cars, similar to Volvo's. One would have thought that whilst covering "Lights" the manual would have made a big point of this but it doesn't even get a mention, which i find quite odd?? |

| depends what you got your lights set to mate, do you have the auto light thingy? just double check what the dial is turned to? off may not be up right as the far left setting may not be off.

| Lights are only on when you tell them to. Unless you've got auto lights and the sensor's shagged. Oh, and there's nothing safe about having your lights on all the time.

| If you have the light assist then they are on all the time. I think you can have this changed but it is a VAG-COM or dealer thing. John |

| Sounds like you've got the light assistant and it's not set up right. If you live in countries that require you to use your lights all the time, the light assistant is set up that way. In the UK it should be set up so they only come on if the ambient light falls below a set level, you're doing more than 90mph (or thereabouts), or it's raining and the wipers are wiping constantly. I think it's a VAG-COM code that needs changing.

| Thank you everyone for your imput. It appears there is conflict on this matter. Two Skoda Garages have confirmed that the latest Octavia top of the range models have "light Assist" and it is normal for the lights to be on whilst driving!!! Skoda Customer Services, however, say different and suggest they should be turned off by their local garage. I didn't think to ask at the time of who pays the bill??? Have emailed Skoda HQ asking for confirmation and will let you know the outcome. |

| The control unit is coded incorrectly for this market. If you do not want them on as they are then its a simple programming procedure to get the working as normal.

| It cant be done with all VAG COM (not sure if the new software has been updated). The Octavia 2 uses hexidecimal coding for the convieniance system. VAS 5051 uses a simple program asking you what is fitted to the car and what options you want. It then calculates the correct coding for the ECU. The coding is very long. Manual coding is possible but its pretty difficult and the tables are available to work them out from Skoda, get it wrong and it can create allsorts of problems.

| lights are on constant due to coding issue, dealers havent been issued with bulletin or information about this, you need to arrange to return your car to your supplying dealer then ask them to contact skoda technical services who can talk them through procedure. It literatlly takes about 2 minutes. All they do is change binary code from 1 to 0 or vice versa, Its just a matter of them explaining which one it is hope this helps regards |

| If you use guided functions on VAS 5051 there is no need to change any of the code or know what to do, the machine does it for you, all you need to enter in is yes or no for daytime lights.

| I had mine reset at the dealer because the lights were on all the time, a 30 minute job and the light assist was fixed. all has was fine till the other night and now they have returned to being on all the time. I am very disappointed as since the Skoda Garage has started selling Kia’s they don’t seem to care about their Skoda customers any more. |

| That is very odd indeed as a control unit cant recode itself. Are the on even when tunnel assist is off?

| So with the tunnel assist on the lights are on all the time yes? And with the lights switched to zero they go off.
