Hi there

Looking to get a Petrol Skoda Octavia vRS as a company car.

I'm after the following spec - Metallic Black, Jumbo Box, Maxidot, Front/rear sensors, Cruise Control, Curtain Airbags, Active Headrest, Xenon Lights, Auto lights/washers etc.

My question is regarding the suspension.

Reading the Skoda website, I note that the vRS has as standard "lowered suspension by 20mm" then i notice that as a dealer fit option i can have Eibach springs fitted that lowers the suspension by 30mm.

I'm confused, so the Eibach kit lowers the car suspension by another 30mm so 50mm in total?

Is the standard suspension any good? is it stiffer or just lowered?

Is the Eibach kit worth it?

I have read the road test reviews and reports, were these cars on standard suspension or the Eibach kit?

Why no the TDI vRS? You'll pay less Company car Tax and fuel consumption is around 25% better.

I always thought that vRS suspension was only 10mm lower than 'standard' (not 20mm); but either way, NO, eibachs do not lower by a further 30mm, they just lower by 30mm on standard or 20mm on vRS.

OEM suspension is pretty good if a little firm/jittery in ride. It IS stiffer as well as lowered.

Not for me, although plenty of guys on here swear by it. the one good mod is Koni FSD shock absorbers, but as these would have to be an 'after-market' fit (not an approved accessory) you might be in tricky territory being as it is a Company Car .

Most magazine road test will have been on OEM (not eibach) suspension.

Ignore him just get the Petrol one, he knows it's better than the diesel anyway

Re - Petrol vrs Diesel

Had various diesel company cars since 1997, fancy a change and the emissions are not toooooo bad with the petrol. We will soon all be forced into electric cars so I want to enjoy driving a bit


Re - Fuel costs

Who cares? Company fuel card


Re - Curtain airbags and Active headrests

Last year I was rear-ended by an Aston Martin DB7 doing 70MPH I was stationary in a Vectra, I got out without a scratch, car had £8,500 worth of damage, Aston was written off. After that incident I appreciate a few extra safety devices........


Thanks for the info re suspension, the roads are rather rough in places where i commute so i think i will skip the Eibach option.

Stick with the standard suspension as it is firm enough and not too low

I thought about the active head rests thinking they were for safety but when I quizzed a dealer I was told that they are just a way of moving them electrically so did not bother, did get the curtain airbags though.

Had mine (1.9 tdi Elegance, not Vrs) for six weeks and 5k miles (round trips to Edinburgh twice and Nice once) - no regrets and it replaced a diesel Honda Accord.

I have had various company cars since 1997 - Ford Escort, Ford Focus's, Ford Mondeo's , Saab 93, Citroen C5, Vauxhall Vectras etc. Now i have changed company and have a budget of £21,000 (this is based on list price).

The Octavia vRS in Petrol with as many options as possible (up to £21k) seems one of the best options so far. I have a company fuel card so economy isnt a huge factor, as long as i get around 30mpg average, the boss will be ok.

Also, it has to be black, never had a black car and i know i will regret it, but for once i must have a black car!

The octivia seems like a good choice with specing it up to your limit.

Its not fair to hear that you guys don't have abied by company policy re prefered fuel. I have to run a diesel or i get penerlised in the region of £1000 per year. (sorry for the spelling)

It's only this company that gives me the choice re fuel, all the others it was diesel only.

If i go for petrol, the list price is lower so i can blag some more options

Have you thought about the vRS TDI with DSG gearbox?

There have been articles in a couple of magazines recently on the technical issues of manual/auto gearboxes and the VAG group DSG 'box is reckoned to be the best.

The Active headrests are designed to move forward in the case of a frontal accident to reduce whiplash. Electrically adjustable? There is nothing like a dealer knowing the product they are selling... and thats nothing like a dealer knowing the product they are selling

I have them, as we ll as the curtain airbags and as to how anyone can say not to bother with additional safety aids is beyond me

Imo they should be standard across the range.
