Default A really odd thing happened - windows

In fact it's so odd I'm kind of embarrassed to post this.

I reversed into a parking spot today jumped out of the car went to get some stuff out of the hatchback. Shut the hatch walked round the side of the car to find all four windows fully down.

No i hadn't been drinking, the rain was so bad if for whatever reason I had forgotten I'd put them all down and driven along, the seats would have been soaked, which they weren't.

Any ideas or similar experiences please?

It's a 2007 vrs tfsi.

Was the key in the ignition or in your pocket?

No prizes for where i'm going with this one!

Press and hold the unlock button and all electric windows will open. If the key is accidentally pressed it will do the same thing.

If you have a late model with a rain sensor you can also enable 'rain closing'

I had the keys in my hand so i guess I inadvertently pressed and held unlock. Mystery solved. Thanks. I'm sure theres a jolly good reason for having a facility like this but I'm struggling to think of it!
Cheers

It allows the red hot air out of the car on a hot day before you jump in. It can be disabled via the MaxiDot display (if fitted) or via the VAG-COM diagnostics software that quite a few members have on here.

That's a pretty cool idea. Literally. By the time the warm weather arrives i'll probably have forgotten about it, though.
Nice one.

Also works the other way round if you leave a window open and forget to close it when you go to lock up the car. Press and hold the lock button for a few seconds until the windows are all up

That reminds me of a post on the Audi forum a few years ago. The guy had a similar problem but it only seemed to happen when his wife was driving.

There were loads of technical solutions suggested.

It finally turned out she put the key in her back pocket and her jeans were so tight, the unlock button was held down

This used to happen with the Mazda all the time. It spent an entire rainy night with the windows down one time so I had to drive round with the heating full blast for the next few days.

No one nicked owt either! I tend to keep my keys in my coat now instead of me jeans.

Uhm, what would the maxidot option be, in that case? Don't recall seeing a setting for disabling remote window opening...

In a nutshell the maxidot display is a small dot matrix screen between the rev counter and speedo, offers more control over thing like windows and door locks.

It's an option on most models so unless you specified it or got a car with it already fitted you won't have it.

If you do a search for 'maxidot' it will unearth an untold plethora of information on it.

Am I right in saying that the rain closing option closes the windows when open but also opens the window when closed and too hot ????

I knew it did the first part but didn't realise the 2nd.

Nope, the rain closing will attempt to shut all windows if water hits the windscreen, it tried to do it the other day when I was sat in the car, every window tried to close one by one, made me jump

It doesn't open any windows - that's only possible with the fob AFAIK and I can see a security issue with that one

Slight misunderstanding here, I'm afraid. Let me rephrase my original question: What MaxiDot setting would be used to control window opening? I don't recall seeing one on my MaxiDot.
