Rear wash not working

The rear wash on my 06 Octavia hatchback has stopped working. I have checked the obvious stuff - the fronts work fine, there is water in the tank and it isn't cold enough to freeze. Are there any known problems - simple things like tubes dropping off?

Re: Rear wash not working

I had the same problem with my last Octy on a 55 plate. The tube had fallen off and the dealer fixed it free of charge.

Re: Rear wash not working

Sadly the OCtavia is affected by the same problems of the pipes parting that are found on the Fabia.

More details here -

Fabia-vrs.com - Repairs to Rear Washer Pipe - Fabia and Octavia (A4 / A5).

Re: Rear wash not working

The rear washer stopped working on my 55 estate earlier this year. I took it into the dealers to have it fixed under warrenty. They repaired the faulty pipe that had blown and returned the car back to me.
Two weeks later I got a bill for £90 without any explanation. When I rang the Service Manager to ask why I had been sent the bill, I was told Skoda had rejected the claim.
After a full and frank exchange of opinions (all mine) it was agreed that the charge would be waived.
So beware!! make sure they are going to do it under warrenty. It is a known problem so you should not have to pay. Best of luck

Re: Rear wash not working

As the bulletin says they will check to ensure that you've been using OEM washer fluid.

I have been told the same; it is a MUST to use OEM washer fluid in the Octy with its 'fan' washer jets; it stops them from getting clogged up.

Its pretty good at keeping the screen clean as well; mind you, it needs to be at £2.48 per Litre bottle (one needed per full tank of screenwash).

If your a tight ******* you can make the bottle last for 2 tanks

Good stuff though despite the price

I always pour 250ml into an empty bottle and then fill it with water.

My rear washer has stopped working, when operating water pours down the n/s pillar & fills the boot with water, yet another trip to the dealer.

Re: Rear wash not working

I had this very problem fixed today by the dealer. They didn't mention about OEM washer fluid though although I have heard it can be a problem if you don't use it. Perhaps had better buy some

Re: Rear wash not working

Just another point... i may be completly wrong in what I say BUT.... if the Octy II is anything like the golf V then if boot isn't properly closed rear wash/wipe wont operate.

But yes... generally usually pipe popped off.

By the way we only recommed VAG screen wash because of the fan jets we use rather than jets. They are very easily clogged up. Nothing to do with freezing etc. Just spray pattern.

Re: Rear wash not working

Just to avoid a bill from any stubborn dealer take the car with the washer bottle emptied using the front washers

In over 2 years of trying at least 2 dozen brands of screen wash, some of which sucked big time, and I only managed to clogg a jet when some moron put antifreeze in the bottle.
We don't get the best of fluids here in Romania, so this must mean the jets take quite some punishment before they give up.

Re: Rear wash not working

REPAIR REAR SCREEN WASH

Not from UK-please excuse my English if there is any mistakes!
I was pretty upset with my rear screen wash. The car is a hatchback. After a really cold night it froze and stopped working. I repaired it with my dealer but two weeks after that it froze again and not the fluid in the tank but the little drops on the way out…and it was off again.
But I repaired it using some of the tips posted here. But there are some important things that I want to explain:

1. The rear was tube have two connections on its way to the rear wiper that might disconnect. One of the connections is right next to the wiper itself, and the other one is in the inside of your trunk behind the left wheel arch under the upholstery. So first you have to locate where the problem is.

1.1 If the problem is in the connection next to the wiper the liquid will come out from a little hole in the center of the trunk hood right over the lock.

1.2 If the other connection fails liquid comes out from somewhere and you can see it dropping out behind the rear left tire from the rear bumper where the mud guard should be. In both cases there should be liquid in the tank and you should spray several times.

2 REPAIRING.

2.1 If you have 1.1 situation you have to dismantle the trunk door inside cover.
First unscrew the screw under the closing handle. That’s the only screw. Now there are some metal clips. Start from the bottom end, the one next to the lock. From one of the bottom corners try to unclips it by pulling hard, I used also a plastic tube to leaver out. When you finish with the bottom end clips there are some plastic parts in the inside that can not be reached but just pull and they will come out, they are soft and I did not broke anything, just slightly deformed those parts. After that there are six more clips right under the rear window. Start from the one corner and just pull perpendicular to the window. The clips should come out.
Now you see it all. Put the tube on its place and fix it with sticking tape.
To mount the cover back first check out if all the metal clips are on the cover! After that start from the window side. Slide both corners in their place and try to put into place the clips and just hit it hard to fix. The best way to do it is by entering the trunk face backwards. Check out if the two plastic parts are in place, they should slide in there in the beginning. Fixing the bottom end clips is a bit harder. Start with the upper ones using a small screwdriver to just put them into place. Do not forget the screw!

2.2 If you have 1.2 situation you don’t need to dismantle the trunk door cover. You need access under the upholstery on the left. First unscrew the bag hook. Next the little hook next to the taillights back. Now remove the spare tire cover and unscrew the two plastic nuts holding the plastic part with the incident triangle. That plastic cover has some metal clips too, just pull it up on the left side only to unclips the first clips from the left. Now loosen the upholstery and try to dismantle the little trunk light wires. You have to use a little flat screwdriver. Pull the upholstery down and you should see the connection in there among the wires. Fix it with tape. Fix the trunk light! Now mantle all back.

3. TOOLS: you need only a Philips type screwdriver, one of those strange 8 spoke screwdrivers and a No10 wrench…and some tape.

I hope that will be useful. It saved me the trouble to go to the dealer…again!

If the screws look like this: http://www.pitstop-shop.nl/media/torx1.JPG that's called a Torx bit.

Re: Rear wash not working

Ok, so the 3rd tool you need it probably a T25 driver, I've seen that size is common around the car. Either that or a T20, which is also common.

Re: Rear wash not working

Just reconnected the pipe on my car but still no water .....it was the actual jets on the wiper post blocked.....just flip up the wiper arm cover and the jets are underneath....and they come off so you can clean them out

Re: Rear wash not working

How high up the glass does your rear jets spray? Mine only go about 2/3 up, there's a good 2-3 inches left to reach the 3rd brake light. Would have liked them a bit higher.

This is the hatch I'm talking about.

The actual jets are a lttle ball with a hole in it so if you get a pin, insert it in the hole you can adjust them

Re: Rear wash not working

Typical, mine have stopped working now. Haven't used the car for a few days.

The front are absolutely fine, but the rear is not spraying any water out at all.

Not sure if they are blocked or not, or if anything has popped out, which happened to one of my Fabia estates a couple of years back.

How do I get to the spray holes at the back. Does the black casing come off?

Re: Rear wash not working

just ease the cover up and it is on a hinge (wiper side) and you can just lift the jets out and clean them.....old piece of 5 amp fuse wire works a treat.....but I bet the connector has come off, left hand side of boot (passenger side) just snap it back together and tape it in place
