Remote boot release

Hi

Not sure if this is a fault or feature; when I hold down the tail gate release button on the remote, the lock on the tail gate clicks and the tail gate 'half' releases, but not fully - I still have to press the boot button in order to fully release it and open the boot.

It's as though the boot has been gently closed and is 'ajar' - enough to hold the tail gate closed, but not hard enough to fully close it.

Sorry if that doesn't make a lot of sense!

It's a feature, you approach the car with bags of shopping and pop the boot open with the middle button,then all you have to do is lift the tailgate instead of fiddling around finding the button after you have unlocked the car.

After unlocking with the remote you have to squeeze the rubber pad under the recess to open the boot - it's an electrical thing common to many continental cars. After a second or so the boot will release. And when you slam the boot down again after using the boot release, it will re-lock after a second or so, with a cheery wink of the lights.

If not, you've got a fault and it's off to the dealer.

Not if you hit the boot release(middle) button on the fob, press and hold it and the boot thuds open onto its ajar position, you only need to grab the boot anywhere to pull it up, you don't need to touch the rubber button above the number plate.

You only have to press the rubber button on the boot if you have unlocked the whole car first.

Except I pointed it out as a fault and there is a TSB for it, but when that didn't work I was told it's a characteristic.

I can live with it I guess.

Mine does the same, opens to the first 'latch' only and then you still need to squeeze the rubber button to open it - fecking useless. Mine went in last week for adjustment. Chris the tech and I then went around every hatch on the forcourt trying them and they were all the same. I am waiting for them to get back to me with an answer from technical.

My Fabia did as I would expect and opens when you press the button - surely that's how it should be.

Having to press the fob and then the boot release sort of defeats the object of the whole thing.
I'm glad mine works properly as it's quite handy at times apart from when something shifts in the boot so it falls out when said middle button is pressed

Mine sometimes pops out (release), sometimes doesn't. Now I have the way to make it release every time: I press and hold middle button and after it lifts up a little I don't check if it opened but I repeat middle-button-hold one more time and it gets open for sure.

Thanks for all your replies.

Tried bosnjo's tip - the latch clicks several times as it tries to release the boot, but it still needs the black tailgate boot release button to be pressed before the boot releases from its 'first latch'.

Since I still have to use the black button on the tailgate, I may as well just unlock the car!

Sounds like a common problem but may as well mention it when first service due

Mine was adjusted but it still seems to not work right all the time. I think if you try to lift the boot straight away after the key fob press then theres more chance of it being open.

I phoned Technical yesterday and they assure me that if you press the button on the key fob you still need to press the rubber button on the boot lid too.

All seems a little pointless to me.

My car (ZZH) and a colleagues Octavia estate (ZYH) both pop the tailgate open without the need to press the rubber button.

Maybe a poll is in order."to press or not to press"

ive been playing with my boot release and found the following

If you press the button on the key fob you can open the boot from anywhere within 2 seconds. i.e you dont need to press the black rubber not really long enough if you have got arm fulls of shopping


After 2 seconds the latch closes over but still leaves the boot able to be opened for upto 45 seconds by pressing the black rubber button.

After 30-45 seconds (was never the same twice when i timed it )the car locks again the alarm is activated and the boot can no longer be opened

On our 1.9 Eleg. (06) Once you have popped the boot with the middle button, you can lift the hatch from any position, you don't have to reach under for the button.

Would it be a case that whatever holds the locking mechanism open is falling back into position which means you have to use the button on the bootlid....when you press the key fob on mine I hear a noise (as if something being pulled open), but if you don't lift the bootlid quick enough the noise appears again and have to use the actual boot lid release. Maybe the return spring (or what ever is to return it to its position is too strong and overcoming the opening mechanism).

but whatever you do DO NOT put your keys down in the boot and close it as it will then auto lock, unless you have spare keys handy it will be a big problem,I have NEARLY done this once only
