This is a discussion on So, the deisel vRS within the Octavia II forums, part of the Skoda Model Discussion Area category; It sounds a bit "carp" to me with the current thread on dpf's / eml's....

| I was keeping an eye on the diesel RS for my next car, but have been put off by these reports too. In general the Octy 2 RS seems to suffer from rattles as much, if not more than the Octy 1. Think I will hang on to my Mk 1 for another while.

| Not got / had a single rattle or squeak in mine, and I have swapped head units, had the dash out for a "parrot" install, hardwired the talex and everything is still tight and squeak free despite my hamfisted attempts to make it otherwise I did have one tiny squeak from the boot, which was the carrierbag holder, quick squirt of 3 in 1 ........ no squeak. On 12k miles now since April and still smiling ...... smiling but really wanting an R32 though but I like being married, and having my testicles in the usual position suspended just below the groin, not sitting in a specimine jar on the mantlepiece with the mrs grinning manically ![]()

| My tailgate rattles but thats a known issue which should be sorted when I can be bothered to take it in to the dealers. I looked up the cost comparisons of the Petrol vs Diesel and was quite surprised how close they were.

| Test driven both Petrol and Diesel vRSs - about to order the Diesel! The performance is effortless with so much grunt, not as peaky as expected and a good spread of power. It will be a Company car and the tax angle/fuel consumption is a factor. Problems? Some you do, some you don't - no matter. Besides I LIKE to keep in touch with my dealer's service dept anyway (perverse?). |

| Having a golf GT TDI PD170 as a hire car at the moment, the petrol is quicker, but i still think the derv is very quick for such a car and you can get 50mpg (just) from it if driving normally and not enjoying the power ![]() Think i'll be sticking to a 1.9 PD105 or 2.0 PD140 depending on the insurance ![]()

Off topic, I'd just thought I'd share my experiences of the 105bhp 1.9 TDI (all be it in a MKV Golf) The 105bhp is misleading - it shifts and I think would map realy well to around 150bhp ish mark - pannel filter going on this weekend, with the aim of getting it remapped in a months timeOn the down side it misses that 6th gear that the 130bhp PD versions have.... on motorway runs doing a constant 80mph you'll be lucky to see 50mpg.... I've found you only get into the mid-high 50's if your doing between 50-60mph. On topic, I'd love to have a go in the 2.0TDI 170bhp, my Dad's car has the 140bhp version mapped to around 180bhp and it sure flies ![]()

Now there is a car I would love, it sounds great and would be perfect for long distance commutes, well except for the cost and the limited boot space and the fact that every little scroat round here would try to nick it and the tyre wear and the……. I’d still love one over a Golf GTi too, regardless of what the mags say about the handling.

| Hi all, I got my VRs TDi in early September, it now has over 8k on the clock, it was off the road for 6 weeks after some scum vandalised it. But if you think it will do 50mpg, dream on! Mine averages 41.2mpg, and the vast majority of my millage is at 70-85mph on the motorway. It does get thrashed once in a while, but even then the mpg does not drop significantly below this figure. I was hoping for better, but then, it is better than the Superb I had! Cheers, Dibbley

| I got 50.5 out of the golf GT TDI on motorway run last week. For that run that is very poor compared to my old car ![]()
