Test drive

Had a test drive in the new Octavia Vrs Tdi and was left a little disappointed. The performance was more linear then my Fabia Vrs but although faster on paper felt slower in real world driving. If I was to buy a Vrs it would be a petrol model after this test dive simply for the extra power and much cheaper price.

Dont forget though your perception of speed is greater in a smaller car.

Why?. Ok my neighbours drive these makes but being a Skoda makes a smart choice in my honest opinion. So what I live a in lovely area but I work hard for what i've got and at the end of the day an Audi is just a glorified VW or Skoda. Two new Octavia Vrs' are also in the village so when I see them I'll make the point you raised and ask why they did'nt buy a Merc, Bmw or Audi. Interesting to see what points they make

True but the Octavia was a let down after reading the posts on here etc. I suppose I thought it would be much faster looking at the 0-60 times but is just wasn't. I would purchase a petrol model though and in terms of looks etc I think it's a cracking car for the money.

Re: Test drive

Take mileage into account as well, the demo car probably has a low mileage so the engine will still be tight, I presume your Fabia has a reasonable mileage on the clock so is well run in.

My TDI was as tight as you like until at least 15000 miles.

Re: Test drive

When I test drove a Civic 2.2 CDTI it felt very linear in power delivery and didn't have the same shove that VAG engines do so felt a bit slower.

When you actually looked at the speedo though you realise just quick it was and you were going much faster than you expected.

I'd guess this plays a part in your perception plus the difference between a new tight engine and one that's well run in.

Re: Test drive

My octy tdi has now done 3000 miles and i can aready tell the difference from when it was new already, the engine just seems so much more responsive, its had an effect of MPG too, similar trips and i get around 5mpg more .

My brother in law has an audi A4 with the same engine and he said the same thing, car felt really sluggish when it was new, but now he recons its the best engine he has ever had in a car (hes done around 20K), might not be v quick from standstill but when it counts ( ie overtaking, through and out of corners etc), OMFG ....... and i have to say, i agree with him!

Re: Test drive

I have driven 2 Octy vRS TDi's, 1st one had about 1000km on it and was fast'ish, 2nd car had over 6000km on the clock and felt far faster, I do think the engine needs miles on it to bring out its best

This car has 4K on the clock and is the service managers car. Been in the car again today and there is no doubt it is a superbly built vehicle. The ride is far superior to my Fabia and overall I really like the Octavia. However if I was to purchase a Vrs it would be the petrol model with the performance to match the sporty looks.
