| I am seariously thinking about purchasing a 05 reg 2.0 tdi Elegance today. It has had one owner and has Pegasus 17" alloy wheels. Does this mean it has the suspension pack? If so what is the suspension pack and will it effect my insurance? Also I believe this model is the one that can have flywheel problems. The dealer said he ll check out the vin number but is there a way to find out if it was recalled and repaired myself using just the reg number? I took it for a test drive last night and the only thing that put me off a little was when you were travelling along there was a funny whistling noise. My husband said it was definately the turbo and it needs looking at. I can liken the noise to a police siren in the distance and it is constantly there! Does anyone know what this could be? Again the dealer said this will be looked at when it is serviced before I pick it up. So many questions, sorry ![]() |

| I've got 17" pegasus wheels but not the suspension pack. They do come as a package but he could have bought the wheels separately. If it does have the suspension pack I can't see it affecting your insurance as it's a standard option. The whistling noise is quite common and has been mentioned several times on here. Mine is loud but performance is unaffected. Welcome to Briskoda ![]()

| Cheers Gillywibble I still dont think the whistle is right. It doesnt sound like your normal whistle and I certainly could not stand that noise all the time. I drove another skoda last weekend with the same engine and it didnt have this noise. Oh well lets see what happens at the dealers. ![]() |

You'll have to trust the dealer on this one. I doubt Skoda would tell you if you asked. Quote:
Mine has now done 50k and has been sounding like this for as long as I can remember. If it's much more noticable it could be a bad sign.

| I have a 07 plate 2.0TDI Elegance, and I have struggled ever to hear the turbo. I have driven a Landrover Defender, and various vans and quite like the sound, so was quite disappointed not to hear it. There are also lots of posts about turbo replacements on this forum and its not something you want to fund out of warrenty. My opinion is that it could be a problem if it really sounds like a distant siren - turbo bearings, or some other worn bearing.

| Thanks for the replies guys. This is a great forum The car has only done 30k so hopefully its nothing major. I just hope the garage don't do a temporary repair and then it goes when the warranty has expired ![]() I like the car a lot and I am going back on Saturday to arrange finance etc. I just hope I am making the right decision. I am part xing 2 cars and one of them is my beloved Ford Focus 1.8 TDCI Ghia. I am only selling it because we only really need 1 car since there are only 2 of us and need one with a fairly big boot for all our camping gear (everything but the kitchen sink!) ![]() |

| Yes, get the estate, it eats all of the stuff I cart around and also the DSG gearbox is a winner

| I get the low whistling sound when driving at low speeds around town on my 57 plate 2.0L, but it disappears when she's opened up a bit. I agree with gilesk, get the DSG gearbox, there's no loss of performance or fuel economy. Mac

| Hi Tigermad All Skoda diesels are currently "PD". It stands for Pumpe Duse in German, which translates I believe as "unit injector". |

| PD is the injection technology, just like indirect injection or common rail etc. All 2.0 TDI engines are PD, but the 170 uses piezeo injectors. HTH

| Well I am going to the car place in the morning to place the order, hopefully my finance will go through ok. I just hope I am purchasing from a good showroom. They seem to be very nice but for some reason something is niggling me at the back of my mind. I guess I am just being silly. ![]() |

If something is still niggling you then take a big breath and continue to shop around a bit more. Remember: You owe the dealer nothing(i.e don't feel loyal to him thats how good sales techniques work). There's a multitude of used octavias out there for sale. With the so called credit crunch it should be a buyers market. There also should be a good choice of finance.(Dealer finance is often not the best deal, again shop around) If you do go ahead with the purchase have a good look over the car first, get any remedial point agreed in writing before signing any docs. If you do all the checks you can (don't worry about feeling that you are a nuisance) and are satisfied then buy it and enjoy your purchase. Have fun. | |

| The problem was a faulty vacuum so since its still under skodas warantee they have replaced the vaccum and turbo. If all goes well with the finance (I should find out on Tuesday) I will be picking the car up next weekend. Used Elegance 2.0 TDis are not readily available under £10k. So i think I have made the right choice |

| Silly question time. If the 05 Elegance does not have maxidot can you still see the mpg, temperature etc on the normal readout? |
