Question video through the satnav head unit? power in the roof?

I've got the satnav option on my octy, with the jumbo box, thus the AUX input. But i notice on the aux screen there is an option to turn video input on or off... is there indeed a video input on the back of the unit, and can it be used?

similarly - if I wanted to install a DVD sun-visor (fairly cheap on ebay) is there an power supply somewhere in the roof that can be easily tapped into?

There is an A/V connection in the rear of the MFD2 unit.

You would need one of THESE
to make it work.

Also, the screen goes off when driving so bear that in mind. There is a way to get around this though if for example you want to replicate the album track/title screen on your MP3 player whilst on the move. It's called a TV free adaptor and it can be found HERE

The nearest power supply in the roof I would think is the interior light. Other than that it would be a case of running a fused 12v feed from somewhere suitable. There is a spare switched live in the fuse box IIRC

Thanks for that... I actually want to get some video cameras set up for track days etc. so the built-in screen would be perfect. The 'tv free adapter' looks a bit dubious - no explanation of how it works! but the video input box on ebay looks the business - any idea if installing it would mean losing the AUX-in from the jumbo box?

With the MFD2 you get 2 Aux options- 'A/V' and 'A'. Pressing the AUX button twice will bring this option up.

Obvously 'A' equates to the AUX in from the jumbo box MP3 socket and the A/V will look at the input on the rear of the unit. It can accomodate both but not simultaneously ie you can't have the MP3 player belting out tunes while you watch a video play back.

The TV free adaptor intercepts the CAN-BUS input that allows the MFD2 to judge vehicle speed/rate of turn for the sat nav to fool the unit into thinking you are parked. Other than that I don't know precisely how it does this but I ordered one last week so I can let you know how it goes if required.

When you install the A/V adaptor make sure you connect the +12v AND ground leads to the same loom as the head unit or you will get ground loop induced hum through the speakers. I used the supplied ring crimp to connect to ground elsewhere before and the hum was awful.

i guess my follow up concern would be whether this interception also means the car no longer tracks its movement when GPS is not available (e.g. in a tunnel) - ok, not a great loss, and no worse than a portable satnav unit, but handy non-the-less...

would be very keen to know who you got on - and if you can be bothered to take any pics, that would be nice too..

I can take some pics when it arrives.

What I am assuming is the box of trickes only fudges the can-bus signal when the A/V input is active so once the source is switched off the signal returns to normal.

It might be too much to ask but i'll find out soon enough.
