Default vRS Driving Position & Steering Wheel Column

I've had my TDI vRS for about 2 months now and loving every minute of it. Getting used to the driving position in any car normally takes me some time before finding the perfect postion (I'm funny like that, it's never quite right!)

I think I've found the perfect postion for the seat and steering wheel now but I've noticed that there's only about 25 - 30mm between my knee and the steering wheel column when my foot is on the brake pedal. No matter what adjustments I make to the steering wheel column I have the same problem, I only have to move my leg forward slightly and it's touching the column. This isn't particularly comfortable!

Does anyone else have this problem i.e. is it normal or am I just not doing something right?

Tried playing around with the height adjustment?
Silly question but I've overlooked it in previous cars.

I found the seats generally good but the squab (bit your thighs rest on) is a bit long and touched the back of my knees. Found it a little irritating to start with but I'm used to it now.

I have tried adjusting the height but this introduces a new problem! I have the maxidot display and if I set the wheel too high then I can't see the tripometer at the bottom. It's kind of a catch 22 at the moment!

I've always liked to sit a bit lower in cars. My seat is adjusted so it's nearly all the way down. But if I lift it up I still find it very comfortable. Maybe because it's such a difference from what I drive at work.

I'm still adjusting mine every time I drive... only had it a week though... I'll get there eventually.

I have the same problem.
Several times I've bashed my knee on the steering column when quickly moving to the brake pedal.
I am concerned what would happen in the event of a front-end collision - crushed knee-caps maybe ?

I've come round to the conclusion that the whole driving position in the Octavia is not well suited for me - I am only average height/weight/build. Brake and clutch pedals are too high off the floor, brake to throttle drop is too great. I can't sit far enough away to stop bashing my knee on the steering column without being unable to fully engage 1st gear. Oh and don't get me started on the right side seat-bolster digging into my leg
Still at least the proper Recaro seat I've got on order will fix the last problem.

Ho, hum

BTW
really enjoying the pace, space and slick gearbox in the VRS Shooting Brake

Would I change it for anything else ?
Hell, no !

I wish the seat base tilted like in the sport spec Audis, as I find them easier to get comfortable in.

Also I agree with Animal about the seat bolsters, somehow they're not quite right.

I like my seat very high, my good lady who is much shorter likes the seat low.

I adjusted the steering wheel when we got it and it is fine for both of us.

Will look how much clearance there is next time we are out in the car.

Have to say it is one of the comfiest cars we have ever had.
