Default vRS Gear Kn0b

Hi,

The **** on my car is really worn, it has done 39,000 miles, but has anyone else had problems with thier **** getting worn?

And yes it is a serious question, the plastic bit in the middle is losing all its colour!

Edit "Sorry I mean the bit at the top of the gear lever, thats what the **** mean"

My kn0b is chrome topped.

Guess this means it's easier to polish

That's a tad personal - Roadside Hotel for that sort of problem

Do you get fingermarks on it?

Seriously,

Can I get a replacement and is it easy to fit? Preferably better quality, I am fed up with a second rate Kn0b. (sorry I had to put it that way!!)

Oops, sorry for taking it OT

Go and speak to your dealer and see what they say about it. Mine is a standard chrome plated gear k nob and it's never worn at all.

Bottom line is yes you can get replacements and they are straightforward to change.

What he said...

I'd get the dealer to change it under warrenty if the car is inside. Can't say I've seen any wear on any of the Octy's I've ever seen

All sort of issues with chrome in such areas, fingerprints are the least of my worries, but a good buff up with some Zym0l or Colli usually works

Mine got badly worn from my wedding ring. Never even thought of it until my buddy said that was the reason.

I love a MKV GTi one. I was thinking of getting - VW OEM MK5 GTI Edition 30 manual shiftknob for US $ 219.00 .

.... but why do you want something in/on your car that is so obviously 'Golf' - when presumably you bought an Octavia to be different and discerning.

I have the same problem with my wedding ring - but wear £20 leather driving gloves (bit cheaper than a new 'ball ended gear selector stick').

My kn0b end was a bit discoloured when I first bought my octy vRS. (s******)

I put it down to the previous owners sweaty palms.

I went down to the local Skoda dealer with the intention of buying a whole new Kn0b (c'mon, no more kn0b jokes )

They quoted me £60 IIRC.

However, on the schematic? diagram I noticed the silver bit with the gear slection numbers on was available seperately.

I ordered that, for about a £6 instead.

Picked it up 2 days later, fitted it in 2 mins and voila, A brand new looking shiny Kn0b once again.

Even the missus said what a difference it makes, just got to remember to not to drive around with my hand on it all the time, so it stays like new

I dont have the part no. Im afraid, but Im sure someone on here could provide it

I could get you a picture tomorrow, but it looks like any other kn0b tbh, may even be able to get you a pic of the old part removed, as I think I have it lying around.

Regarding removing your old plastic part, be careful. If you insert something small and reasonably flat bladed into the small gap between the plastic and actual kn0b, its just a case of working gently around the edges until its free.
Its just got a couple of protruding parts at the top, which fit into preformed holes on the actual kn0b, but the rest is just held with glue.
The new part is self adhesive and is a doddle to fit

Cheers

Damian

As I already changed the gearkn0b, I have mine lying around.

Just made a couple of pictures of the kn0b and the plastic insert.
