| I used to - not in the UK though. Only thing is that a rooster is very annoying first thing in the am...... Great fun, hours of entertainment, good recycling of table scraps and fresh eggs from home are the best... Better check with your local council maybe? And if you have any pests, would deffo need to pen them in at night...

| Just spoken to my Dad who used to be a chicken farmer and he said you should be ok as long as you are not keeping over a dozen of them, just bribe next door with a few eggs. ![]() And keep your eye out for rats as that will be your biggest issue Hope this helps

| Don't need any license to keep a few as pets/for home produce. There could be an issue with traceability in event of outbreak of avian flu - from a govt. official point of view (not that I am one). During the last foot and mount outbreak most animals could be traced no problem as "professional" livestock keepers are all required to be registered and movement between different premises are all recorded. the big problem was "hobby farmers" who had a property with a big garden or small field and kept a few sheep or cows that were not recorded - they were vectors for the disease but there was no record of their existence. The very same scenario could happen with bird flu. Sorry to sound officious but I am an ex-farmer and teh losses incurred during foot and mouth were the last straw. |

| I kept chickens in my back garden a few years ago.Only had 6 or so and my step-kids loved them. The only reason they had to go was the next door neighbour complained to the housing association, even though they made no noise, they were all hens so no ****-a-doodle-dooing, and were not affecting him in any way at all.(Even though he used to spend an hour or so a day banging crap out of his drum kit and i complained about that, he got to keep the kit and still continued to play the godforsaken things!). Funny thing is, although my 3 teenage stepdaughters loved collecting the eggs of a morning, they would not eat them as they wanted 'proper' eggs from the supermarket! |
