| Im not sure if this is in the appropriate section but anyway, Took the trip from home (Sheffield) down to Jabba today for a remap. Had it booked in for 12pm set off at 10.00am to arrive in plenty of time Booked it in and then had a walk over the road from Jabba to the garden centre Got a phone call at 3pm to tell me they were unable to map it The reason being, at the Harewood House car show a bit back, I had a free 5hr Revo demo installed, by the guys at Specialist Cars of Malton North Yorks. After the 5hrs expired, they said it would go back to standard, but unfortunately it went back to their standard version, however still locked to Revo Jabba couldnt do a thing with it, and they said only a revo dealer could unblock it (not even Skoda could flash it) Nightmare! Anyway called Specialist Cars to tell them, and they were very helpful and said bring it to them, and they will flash it taking all revo locks and traces off. They were open until 6pm, but the time was now approaching 3.30pm and according to sat nav, the estimated journey time was 3hrs I thought if I drove a bit sharpish, I could make it quicker than that. So off we set back on the A1 for the long drive and we got there with half an hour to spare They flashed it back to completely standard, and never really said why it was set to stay with a Revo lock. I just think its out of order to make you have to go back to them We set off back to Sheffield tired and disappointed at an expensive and wasted day (3 breakfasts at little chef £26!!! oh, and most of a tank of petrol call it £40) All thats left now is to rearrange another trip to Peterborough (god, I hate the A1 now!) Anyway, If you had a free trial of Revo, be careful as it may be locked to it. Personally think its out of order that they had it set to stay locked, but sheet happens... Damian

| Yes, and yes. When I had my visit to Jabba the guy came back to me about 20 minutes after starting on the car.. "Have you had a Revo trial at some point?" "Yes, I .." "Hmm". Anyway, they sussed it and the car got mapped. Shame they couldn't get around it with yours though. Still, it'll be all the more sweet when it does finally go on..

I would have lost my £50 deposit at Jabba though, but I was that peed off driving 250 odd miles up and down the A1 I actually did say to Specialist Cars, if they would knock me £50 off, to compensate my deposit at Jabba, I would have the full version there and then. Unfortunately they cannot discount it at all So back to Peterborough I go, god knows when now though. Its awkward with work I will pm you the details mate, seems a good setup there anyway Damian

| It's not locked, the trial reverts to stock running tables but they're not in the expected locations. If another tuning company uses certain tools that read out the operating code then modify that they don't see what they expect. Considering that most tuners will have done a few of these cars they should have stock binary files to put into the car prior to 'tuning' them. Most people will send you off to make us look bad rather than using the equipment they have to put a complete factory stock code in. We don't do any of this to intentionally make customers go back to our dealers, it's only certain tools that it causes problems with. |

Have to admit, Revo aren't exactly helpful when you tell them of the problem. Just another excuse in my book. | |

| This is the same of any company offering trial software not just Revo. We are always willing to help out, it's often frustrating though as 90% of the companies that claim they can't modify the ECU because of the trial have the way's and means to do so but choose not to ending up in threads like this. |

| I'm sure Jabba made every effort to try and overcome the problem, and I'm sure they spent a long time doing so. I can't see any reason why they would turn a customer away tbh. Perhaps when issuing the trial it might be worth pointing out that it may make it more difficult for another tuner to remap the car. ![]() |

Which ever forum you go onto that are involved with the VAG group, all seem to be effected by the remnants of the REVO trial map remaining in the ECU. Just go to the discussion section on this forum, and look in your own Revo Technic section, and there you will see this problem already being discussed months ago. I'm not having a go at Revo, as many on here and elsewhere find the map to their satisfaction, it would just be nice if it did not happen, and then there would be no need for these type of posts. Is there a solution ???????

| I think the solution is a full remap; Revo offer a 30 day money back (so I'm told), so rather than then 5-hour, why not go full-fat then get a refund/flash-back to stock if not happy during the 30 day period?

| Most tuners should be able to get around this problem but it does make things more complicated than need be. The timer on a revo trial is stored in the eeprom on the ECU. Not just the eprom PSOP44 as is the case with a "standard" remap. To work on the car a tuner would need an original file from an identical car. In some cases this can be flashed over the OBD port. However much of the equipment used in the industry would require flashing "on the bench" using a so called boot mode. This then writes the complete file to the car, not just the part tuned by 95% of remapping companys. Hope this helps explain things a bit, some more problems come about on second hand cars when customer never knew car has had trial software uploaded. SORRY JUST READ YOUR CAR IS A MK2 VRS. THINGS WORK SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT ON THIS ECU Last edited by yellowcupra; 02-10-2007 at 21:33. Reason: Read more closely this time! |

For example, you might consider that your car may be worth more when you come to sell it if it is standard/unmolested...

| So if, say, I were to go for a remap tomorrow, should I take along a blank CD?

| Best to ask the tuner your using but i cant see a problem with that. The company should always keep a copy themselves also. Maybe one copy stored by the hardware and software numbers, and a second copy stored using the cars reg number and date. |

| As it's a fairly new car and there are a few code versions it is highly likely that they didn't have an un edited copy of the software. Damian perhaps in order to save yourself another wasted trip to Peterborough you would do well to find out if you need an ECU flash under the current campaign. That would overwrite a Jabba map.

| Yes, there is a campaign to upgrade the ECU firmware on 2200 UK Octavia TFSi. It is being carried out when the vehicle next visits the dealership. It's not an optional upgrade either. The affected cars are identified by chassis number - Most I've checked needed it. So the scenario could be you visit peterborough and have the map done then go for service and find you no longer have a map and find yourself traveling to peterborough again.

Thanks Stu one more thing, does it have to be skoda?, could it not be an independent dealer with diagnostic services?
