I think after the ammount of time we've spent getting this sorted getting it working is the best news ever.

For anyone else thinking of doing this job it seems that it is very important to ensure that CYL 1 is at TDC before swapping the pump. THis isn't contained in the instructions supplied with the pumps.

Pretty sure Harry will produce a DIY when he gets time.

TDC stands for Top Dead Centre. Its when the number 1 piston is at the very top of is compression stroke. Its normally set with locking tools that hold the cam sprocket and crank sprocket in the exact position which is identified by markings on the sprockets etc.

By setting TDC you can ensure the cam and the crank stay in sync when the cambelt is removed for example. In the case of the TFSI I'm assuming the injector cycle is related to this too, hence the need for it to be set for the fuel pump to sync in properly??? (Slightly out of my depth now )

- i still dont understand how there can be a difference with a standard map..

I can only assume that he's no longer getting fuel cut-off at what ever revs it was - IIRC Harry was suffering quite a stutter/power loss at high revs.

Basically speaking, at the top end of the rev range the map is calling for fuel that the OEM pump just simply cannot deliver which is what is comonly known as 'fuel cut'. The new pump internals overcome this problem by being able to provide the requested fuel and will have the added benefit of increasing the potential from the TFSI especially once the likes of REVO have been allowed to play around with the settings.

For now I'm guessing that Harry is experiencing a 'smoother' delivery of power but I'm sure he'll be along and tell us exactly what the current benefits are.

So the current map already over-stretches the fuel pump?.. i thought it was wound-back so it doesnt? or is it a case of a setting on the select-plus stuff

The current map gives you more than enough adjustment to play with the car in differing conditions with different hardware on there. A Select Plus isn't a toy it's a tuning tool, thus why running 9 9 9 isn't always the best idea!
Depending on the conditions if you try to run the higher settings without a fuel pump you can suffer from fuel cut.
So basically with the pump on you can maximise the settings to suit. We're still interested to have a play with a car that has one on and see whether a stage2+ is warranted!

Only Harry has his fitted atm, hopefully in the next few days one or two more cars will be ready Will be in touch

In fairness though Kev, most mapped cars have suffered fuel cut in some form or another irrespective of what settings they are running and that goes for other tuning companies too so it's not restricted to REVO.
