Default Customs

Anyone clued up about customs regarding imports? My guitar I bought from the states has some dinks in it so the shop is happy to replace it. Question is as I have already paid VAT etc on the original one I should not have to pay it on the new one surely? I am gonna give customs a ring tomorrow as well, but a heads up is always good

You shouldn't have to pay it twice. I'm sure the supplier will have a special label to put on the package to make customs aware that it's a replacement (similar to marking it as a VAT exempt gift).

Or just don't pay. I have a 'mate' who imported some PSP's. Fed Ex were supposed to collect the import duty on delivery. they forgot, so sent some threatening letters which were promtly ignored, and my mate has never hheard anything since!

You should be fine and supplier will probably label it as a replacement.

We had a problem with some goods that a customer sent to us recently as they came form Guernsey.Basically we had to email TNT to say goods were being sent back to customer once we had done some work to them.
TNT said that was fine as long as we returned goods within 6 months.
