Just bought a Roomster! Mpg?

And very happy with it . It's a Roomster 1 1.4 petrol and it's great, got 2 mtbs and our climbing gear, ropes etc in it and still had plently of space. It handles OK as well, after my worries about the very direct steering. Only got around 35mpg though at 80mphish is that normal, my old Corrado VR6 was getting 32mpg!

No, it's got 9K on it, it's due a service but that shouldn't affect mpg that much It's no great concern but I did expect to be getting nearer 40mpg...........

I've got the same car. Cannot give mpg, but urban consumption is 7.9 litre/100 km in average, on highway 6.2 litre/100 km in average.

Hmmm, it works out to around 7.7 l/100km and that was on the motorway at a steady 75-85mph [115-125kph-ish]. It's going in for a warranty repair of the heater control [HOT! or ICEY! nowhere in between ] so I'll ask the garage to check the MAF sensor.

Mine is not good at 85 but a lot better at 75

Get them to check the memory for codes

The 1.4 is not a "power-house" of an engine, and guess it will be working quite hard to push along at 80mph, your Corrado VR6 only getting into its stride at that speed, and was prob not as heavy as the roomster

Yeah, that sounds about right, slow down to about 65-70 and you'll probably see 40MPG.

I can confirm that 70 mph ish= good economy and 80 mph ish= not good. Probably due to the shape at the rear. The back of the car seems to gather a lot of dirt, noticed on those Roomster utube vid with the car in the desert Lots of turbulance.

Slow Down After it goes in and gets checked I'll see how long I can last at around 70mph and see what it returns.

Honestly. It's about as aerodynamic as a milkfloat and suffers bad over 80mph

Yep, I can confirm the same with the 1.6 engine. About 75 to 80 & it's drinking fuel.

I'm toying with a diesel, North Wales every weekend is hurting in the Octy vrs at the moment.

Hopefully I'll see you parked up somewhere and then maybe on the crags too.

Is it a tight squeeze with gear or is it actually deceptively large enough to cope; thinking 3 up to Scotland for winter climbing as a worse case, normally just 2 of us to Wales or the Lakes.

3 up with 2 of the rear seats folded will leave you plenty of space for 3 lots of winter gear, if you're in to ski touring to your climb then you'll need roof bars but otherwise it's amazing just how versatile they are. There are loads of fixing points as well, perfect for securing stuff with bungees.

Had I had the money spare I would have gone for a diesel simply for the extra torque & mpg [and they can be chipped to 140bhp].

yup at 80mpg even the 1.9tdi suffers due the to design of the rear end.

cant have it all sadly. space and areodymanics?? not quite lol!!

slow to 70mph or even better 65 seems to give a really good mpg. never ever had mine under 40mpg and rarely get onto a motorway so its urban driving all the way lol

My 1.9Tdi seems to offer around 40-42 at an indicated 80, but around 50mpg at 70mph.
