Lightbulb LED on side lights...

Yesterday I was in Barcelona and visited TOTCAR.

I've bought a pair of 4 LED sidelight bulbs.

Afaik, that bulbs are illegal for EU.

Only side lights are on...

Don't they throw up a dtc in vag-com?

I tried this on my octy and ended up using them in the pudddle lights instead. and they still throw up a dtc

They do look smart though

There is a warning on the back of that package "off-road use only", because of the EU regulations.

A pair costs 8 Euro in Barcelona TOTCAR.

No warning light was triggered in Roomster, but it does in Octi Mk2...

I used to have these (bought from Halfrauds) aon my X-trail. They looked really ace as the sidelight glass is a light blue colour, the bright LED behind them made a really peircing colour.

Anyway, to my point, I found that they went faulty very quickly, one or more of the LEDS in the cluster would start to flicker.

May just been an X-trail thing, but check yours on a regular basis to see if they are OK.

Product is "Made in UK".

I've used some similar Chinese products and they suck...

Ditto. I had a couple of different sets - two from a seller on eBay (he sent a replacement set for the faulty ones) and I also picked up another set from somewhere else.

Looked lovely when in use however they didn't last more than a few weeks of use before one of the LED's failed causing the rest of the cluster to flicker.

Most likely the finished "product" was made in the UK but the bulbs would be sourced from somewhere like China where they would literally cost pence.

You can fit them to the Octavia II with the aid of a shunt resistor to fool the bulb failure circuit. I'm not sure if turning off the cold monitoring via VAG-COM will make it work the same, haven't tried it yet.

The Halfords LED's appear to be tat as I have known several sets pop very quickly. They don't like heat either so they can't be fitted in close proximity to the main lamps.
