Tested a Roomster Today

Have tested an Octavia and a Roomster Auto today and was very impressed by both.

The Octy is my personal favourite but I could see myself in a Roomster 2 Auto instead. My wife likes the Roomster in Ocean Blue.

I was pleasantly surprised at just how well the Roomster drives, nice and smooth and not very van-like at all. Very solidly built as well.

If anyone has any advice about the Roomster good or bad, let me know.

I had one for a few days recently (1.4 tdi 2) and it was a cracking car , despite being very odd looking.

I think the Roomster comes in the Scout model which is 4 wheel drive. Worth a tast drive

I am also a disabled driver and find the dsg gearbox a must in the Octavia.

Sorry your right just checked out the skoda web page, it is only the Octavia that is 4x4. Why call it a scout tho?

only problem I found with the roomster was the way the raer door frame curved round the bottom of the window, when I rolled it down to stick my arm out for anyreason my elbox alwas caught on the raised/curved section.

I'm sort of testing a Roomster at the moment. My car (MkII Octavia vRS TDI) is currently in the garage and they gave me this as something different to try.

Sorry to disappoint guys but it's quite possibly THE worst car I have ever driven! I'm guessing it's the most basic model as it just doesn't have any luxuries on it whatsoever except front electric windows.

I know I'm spoilt with the luxuries I'm used to on my car but this doesn't even have remote central locking. That means I have to actually put the key into the lock to open / close it! On top of this it has no trip computer, no air-con, manual mirrors... it hasn't even got a proper glovebox!

It's got the 1.4TDI engine in which is kinda perky once it's spooled up but it's a dog to set off in and redlines at 4500 rpm. It is frugal on the fuel though which is more than can be said about the 1.6 petrol Octavia the garage gave me last week!

I'd love to say that the car makes up for it's shortfalls in its appearance but I'm afraid it that's where it falls flat on its face. The front window frames are weird, even pointless. It looks like a mash between a supermini and an MPV from the side and a tranny van from the rear (it certainly feels like one to drive with the high driving position)

I really do wish that there was something I could find to love about this car but there just isn't. Even taking into account the distinct lack of features this particular model has, I could never forgive those looks!

Hmmm, someone should tell your dealer not to give out a base spec Roomster with the 1.4TDI if they want to promote the car. If they'd given you a 1.9TDI Scout I'm sure your opinion would be vastly different as it looks much better, is well specced and has a nice interior too

No doubt you're correct. First impressions of a car really do last a long time and I don't think they're doing themselves or Skoda any favours by giving out the absolute base spec model.

Everything about this one is wrong, right down to the blue / grey interior!

i've just got a roomster as a courtesy car while mines in for the week,1.9tdi and apart from the space in it it has absoloutly no redeeming features,it has a lot of toys but feels cheap and nasty,i think it is without a doubt the worst modern car i have ever driven,and it looks so bad i have to park it 1/2 a mile from my house so my nieghbours don't see me in it,and the biggest joke is the price of the thing,god it looks crap,drives crap and feels crap in general,how they have got away with that much cheap hard plastic in one interior i will never know.

You do indeed and so do I. Your grammar and spelling are awful, did you finish school early?

Oww love you! When your "Needs" change you will see things a bit differently and hopefully by then you will have driven a few more "modern cars" and you will have a broader, more experianced opinion. I mean, you run a VRS which feels 20x more cheap and nasty inside than a well specced Roomy (Despite the leather) and they handle with all grace of a dead cat. Which Roomster was it (1, 2, 3, Scout)? IF the dealer gave you a base model with the thin wheels and poverty grade interior then that would be about right but I can assure you that the 3 and the Scout are a lot nicer.

Whats wrong with the price? £13k for a fully loaded Scout? (Bearing in mind you paid the wrong side of 12 grand for a end of line hatchback with a crap stereo and bad stutter!!!) Still if you are parking it 1/2 a mile away from your house then at least your getting some exersize!

Sorry, I have to defend oilburninnut here being a former Fabia vRS owner myself.

I don't agree with the interior being cheap and nasty, in fact I think my vRS was in a different league compared to this pile of rubbish I've been given. I'm sure that interior quality generally increases with trim level but then you pay for that extra luxury in the price. Certainly in this respect I think that by the time you've specced yourself a half-decent Roomy you're paying over the odds for an underpowered car that doesn't know what it wants to be.

The Fabia vRS was designed to be a cheap hot-hatch which it achieved with flying colours. Indeed it set the example for hot-hatches, particularly with diesel engines since its inception. Price-wise it was a good £3.5 to £4k cheaper than its nearest rivals so to say it was the wrong side of £12.5k is irrelevant compared to the competition.

I personally had no engine stutter and the stereo was one of the better factory standard head units I've heard (and I've heard quite a few in my time!)
