what a weird day.

Well I went to my local rolling road today go see how many horses my little 1.4 has left, and I was in for little surprise.

so after my little shock i had the garage to do a little digging for me and I found that not only had my car gained 40 BHP it is also been tuned by ABT. so got the blower to ABT to confirm it and gave them my VIN and other info and hey presto my car is on their database. and was tuned on july 12th 2005.

so went digging some more though the service history and found the details of 1st owner and contacted him and he told me that he took all the ABT badges off because he didn't like them. WTF so brought new badges from ABT and they should be here with in 2 weeks hopefully :-)

i though my car was a little fast. so I'm now only 40 BHP off my 180 BHP target. so now my VRS badges can come off.

Fabia BBZ - Misfire Cylinder 1

Hi All,

Troubles with the wife's Fabia, 2004 1.4 16v 100bhp, BBZ engine 90k miles.

Oil consumption has been reasonably high for a while - about 1 litre per 3000 miles (ok, not as high as some others here). Checked the oil on Saturday and it was a few cm's below the min on the stick. Topped it back up.

Today, got a call from the wife to say that the Engine Management light was flashing, that there was no power and that it was juddering a lot below 2000rpm. Got home and checked it with a fault code reader - showed 16685 - Misfire on Cylinder 1. So that explains the juddering, and the lack of power is that + limp mode on the ECU.

So, what's it likely to be. From the research I've just done it sounds like it could be anything from a valve head, to a spark plug. Anyone had the same thing? Also sounds like the BBZ doesn't get to play the piston rings game, so the oil consumption could be a red herring.

Thanks

Creaking Noise Is Driving Me Mad!

Okay so I've had a strange creaking noise coming from the front end of the car for a while. I have replaced the track rod ends, droplinks, console bushes (powerflex), front control arm bush (powerflex), FARB bushes (SuperPro) and top mounts/bearings. I've had the lower ball joints suggested which I might still do but I can't be sure if they are causing the problem. Also the rear beam bushes have not been changed yet if this could be considered a possible factor.

The creaking noise only occurs below 30mph roughly, mainly noticeable when manouvering/cornering however it is also happening when I move off from both a standstill and a rolling start. It is not the drivers seat as I've thoroughly checked it and lubricated the springs underneath. It honestly sounds as if something is under strain. Short of stripping it all down and regreasing all the bushes etc I can't think of anything else to do.

Honestly any suggestions/ideas etc please put them forward.

Cheers,

Lovely 1.4 AUB 16v engine

My son's oil thirsty 1.4 engine ( type AUB ) is such a treat to drive in comparison to my Fabia 2s 1.6 BTS engine. Does anyone know if the BTS is a bored out AUB type 'cos they appear similar?
The 1.4 16v is much smoother than my 1.6 having covered similar mileages however the 1.4 uses SO MUCH oil as I mentioned in a previous topic. Anyone managed to reduce oil consumption without a stripdown? Is it gummed up rings due to the previous owner driving too gently? Would a old fashioned additive like STP give it the clean up it needs? Someone suggested regular thrashings could be the answer which does not sound a silly as it seems....
Using 10w-40 oil at present- would a different grade help?

Just fitted plus & leads at weekend and was STAGGERED at the cost of leads.. over £60!! wot are they made of ? Gold strands?
Love working on my family's Fabias - they're so well engineered.

Are all SMF noisy?

Sorry for another single mass flywheel thread, i know there are a few out there but i can't really seem to find an answer to this question.

Do they all make the super loud idle chatter? If there are some that don't, which brand are these? I'm awaiting a price on a SMF kit from Volkswagen. Anyone using one of these?

As per my other thread, mine has failed and it is knocking terribly. I've been looking at replacement DMF but a local mechanic said he has always gone for the SMF conversion each time he's changed one. He wasn't aware of any being any louder on idle afterwards but couldn't honestly say he'd really committed that detail to memory!

Locked out

Hello,

I managed to lock out my self. I made antirost treatment for my fabia on week end and I had to remove front door during this job. I have assembled remote central locking system by my self, and when I had to remove the door, I had to also snap the wire from my remote control unit. When I was ready (I mean antirost job done) my central locking device did not work yet... So I locked 3 of 4 doors by my self by pressing the lock button and leaving one door open when I was in work place. When I came back to my car, I tried to press open lock button from the cars back seat, but I pressed accidentally lock button again and I stepped out of my car, and slammed cars rear door close. Then I tried to open drivers door... For my surprise it was locked and of course every door was locked. Because I have not used my mechanical locks for many years, they have been jammed totally. I mean totally, I tried to use oil, heat and pliers to get more force to key action, but no way. Now I am out side of my car and I am wondering how to get inside without stone or brick?

Does anybody have good advise? I have also nice pics from my antirost operation, and I´ll put some pics later when I get back to home later tonight. My wife is now coming to get me home =) she had also very bad day today, she crashed her Seat Ibiza on parking zone on airport... =( now left side front wing and door are smashed. Weather is been awful here in Finland.

Here is one idea, but I am not sure is that real / fake and even that could be possible, I don't have so kind of pump tool. I have tried to press that "open lock" button with plastic rod, but not managed yet. Is it possible release boot mechanic by rod or something? After couple of hours I had to give up, cause it´s quite freezing up here in Finland =)

Thanks beforehand - Regards Jamo from Finland

Called into the dealers today to book the car in for it's 1st service. When I mentioned I took out the service package, which was included in my monthly payments, they informed me I have no record of it. When they suggested it at the time, I went for it as Feb is usually a bad month what with Xmas, SWMBO birthday , road tax and insurance it's something I don't have to worry about trying to get the money for it. Been and check documents and can't see anything on the finance agreement. Just list monthly repayments, etc. is it usually listed on the documents or do it comes on a separate document.
Hello all,I don't know if I've posted this in the correct section,as I'm new to this site?
I have an 03 fabia 1.2 htp and for the second time in two years the front wishbone rear console bushes have worn out.I have had these replaced at a local garage with patent parts I think, not proper skoda parts.I read this is a common problem with these cars?I have been told to get the proper skoda bushes cause these will last longer,is this correct?Have they up rated these bushes to compensate?I have also read that people fit seat cupra bushes or polyurethane bushes,I would like to know what people recommend,as I don't want to keep paying out.
Many thanks to all who reply

VRS serpentine belt, alternator, power steering pump?

Today my VRS has started to sound like it has a flock of chirping birds under the bonnet whilst at tick-over (the classic old fan belt noise). The noise disappears when the throttle is pressed and nine times out of then comes back when back at idle speed. It sounds to be coming from the alternator but also increases in intensity when the power steering is put under load. I have sprayed the belt with WD40 which had no effect at all. Does this sound like the alternator or could it be power steering pump or worse (not sure what else is run on the serpentine belt)? Any idea of costs for any of those parts?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Problems with start up when engine is warm

Hi,
I am owner of a Skoda Fabia 1.2 HTP, year 2006, 40 kW.
I have some problems with engine temperature and start up when the engine is warm.
It isn't problem to start up when engine is cool (also in temperature -20'C). Some faults starts when engine temperature rise till 90'C and switch off engine. Then it is hard to start up. Only when accelerator pedal is engaged the engine can start. Temperature in instrument panel is 90'C but when switch of and then start up engine again it show 50'C or less.
I have checked coolant temperature sensor but resistance in any temperature was like shown in autodata.
Can somebody give some advise?

many thanks,

Clutch Pedal Vibrations

Hi all,

My partner has a 2005 Fabia VRS, all standard other than ECU remap.

I was driving through central london in the small hours last night - in the horrendous snow conditions - and as such was taking it very steady. Almost using no throttle and just controlling the car on the clutch.

After 40mins or so i started noticing a rattling sound and slight knocking on the clutch pedal when it was depressed. Clutch operation was still 100% fine - no slipping and still engaging and disengaging without issue.

Ten or so minutes later I began to notice (in addition to this rattle when depressed) that the clutch pedal was 'knocking' quite harshly when easing off the throttle and beginning to engine brake. Only noticeable with my foot resting slightly on the clutch pedal. Felt like the same vibrations as you experience with ABS on the brake pedal.

At first i thought it might be my imagination - what with all the locking up, sliding, wheel spinning, ABS and traction control mayhem. But i've just been out and confirmed that the issue is still there and is very much real.

The car still drives fine, stops and starts without issue. Clutch still operates with no fault other than this vibration.

I fancy that perhaps the engine is slightly rougher/noisier on idle maybe?

I'm replacing a front wheel bearing next week so would be a good time to pull the gearbox off if i can determine what the fault is and replacement parts ready to fit.

Hopefully there maybe someone on here who can help out?

Thanks

Tow straps

Right, it's snowing so I thought I'd go out and try to pre-emptively fit my towing eye (should be a strap on its way to me but I haven't got it yet) however as I thought, the FMIC pipework partially obscures the hole so it's impossible to get on. I can almost force the outlet pipe down far enough with my hands but then there's not enough room to get the thing in to screw in without taking the offending section of pipework off (which means bumper off which I can't do as I can't get flat enough on the ground to undo all the fastenings since the car is sat on the ground surrounded by inches of snow!)

The strap should also have an "adapter" consisting of a chopped towing eye with a bolt through it, but I'm not sure that there's even enough clearance for this plus if it's been sawn off it might have rough edges and I don't want any vibrations to wear holes in the pipework. Not sure what the problem is, it's a Forge intercooler which was made after the so-called "revised" Fabia vRS version which claimed to not affect the towing eye...

I'm now wondering whether I can just bolt the metal bracket of the tow strap straight into the threaded hole and have it sort of flat up against the bodywork? What type of bolt would be suitable for that?
