Better front seats. Scout.

Having talked to a couple of people at the W/Mid meet at the weekend, about how i felt, about the firm seats in the Scout, its time to ask, which seats, from other models, would fit the Roomster. What i find is,i have no lumber support apart from the firm seat. What i would like, is something like what "Bahnstormer vrs" had fitted to his, the"sport spec" seats (under "scout front seats" on this forum), can he remember what the cost was? Any info appreciated.

Headlights again

I've searched the forums and read lots of threads about this subject. None of them answer my problem. I need to operate the change lever to select flat beam on my Roomster 1.6 tdi CR 2010 model with reflector main beams and projector dips outside the mains.
If this lever actually exists it is impossible to see it or operate it without dismantling something. The battery is in the way N/S and I think the fuel filter? O/S.
I have tried to see it using a mirror but cannot identify it leave alone operate it. I can't envisage doing it in the ferry queue so any help will be most appreciated.
Has anyone actually done this on the same model?
It would be nice to fit upgraded bulbs (H7) as well but this also seems impossible. I have changed the mains, also H7, but the dips have got me beat.

Windshield not connected

I have a 2008 Roomster, which was bought used after it was in leasing for 3 years.
The car was excellent, until winter started. I usually park under the building so I haven't noticed it, but two weeks ago, I opened the car after a heavy rain and found out the driver side (and the seat behind it) had wet floor. Actually you can say that there was a serious puddle there.
Took it to my garge. They found out that there was a problem with the windshield which was connected to the car only by two small dots of silicone. I was ready to pay for it myself, but when they took down the windshield to put the new silicone, it turns out that all the electricty under the dashboard is rusty.
Called the leasing company, and they said they haven't changed the windshield so it's not their problem. They talked to the main skoda garge around and sent the car there.
The Czech technical dept. of skoda told them to repair the windshield dry the car (that part took them 6 days by the way) and check all the electricity (replace the problematic components). Skoda is paying for the whole thing.
My question is has anyone ever heard of problems with the windshield in Skoda (doesn't have to be roomster). I just want to understand where I am at with the company, cause replacing the parts might not solve the problems.
Thank you

Roomster Problems.A list of mine :-)

Hi People.

I have owned my Roomster since 2009 when I purchased it from my father. The car had only done 16'000 in 3 years and even now has only 42'000 on the clock.
Along the way over the last 2 years we have suffered a few minor issues with the car, and these are as follows:

Fan turns itself on even when engine stone cold and has resulted in completely flat batteries when we return to the car followed by the enbarrasing bump start along the car park! (Took fuse out to cure it!)

A little yellow light illuminates to tell me (acording to the manual) that the cornering lights are faulty.I don't think i have any and an ECU diagnostic revealed nothing..light on dash goes out approx 1 min after start up.

Annoying rubbery type grinding noise from under drivers floor...think this is the rear console bush perhaps?

radio once stopped working. well it turned on but there was no noise at all...strange! Sorted itself out the next day!

Wear on the outer edges of both front tyres...still sorting that one.

Hate the fuel remaining fuel system.....goes from "you have 25 miles of range" to "you have 10 miles of range" after running my son to school which is a return trip of 6 miles.....?

Why did Skoda decide to not fit a temparature gauge?

New Roomster

I thought I'd show you my new Roomster!

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e393/pinkpanther_75/DSC_4552-1.jpg

I collected it last week and have covered just under 300 miles thus far. I previously owned a 2007 1.9 TDi 2 and must agree that whilst the new CR engine is much quieter, it does lack the low down torque which made the older engine seem "easier" to drive in most scenarios. I find myself using a gear lower than was possible with the 1.9. My old car was however Revo'd from new, so probably does not represent a fair comparison.

The glass roof is a nice addition and the new radio / MDI system seems a great improvement on the stereo fitted to my old 2007 car. The headlights also seem to be improved over the 2007 (? pre facelift car).

This is my 8th Skoda and represents quite a change from the last car - 2007 Honda CRV 2.0 ES Auto. The fuel economy is also a welcome relief at 47 mpg vs 21 mpg.

After learning all about the benefits of winter tyres last year I have a set of winter boots on the way for the Roomster. My other car (Octy Mk1 1.8 T 4x4) is currently wearing Michelin Alpins all round and I have a set of Semperit Speedgrip 2's on the way for the Roomster. These seem something of a bargain at £66 / tyre and have decent reviews also (see here - My link).

I'll let you know how I get on with the new engine and winter tyres over the next few thousand miles.

Although this is my third topic about them I'm really not sure what the situation is. My 2010 Roomster has 4 headlights, 2 reflector H7 main beams and 2 projector dipped beams also H7. So that's 4 separate lamps with 4 bulbs. The inner ones are the mains.
I've noticed a few recent Roomsters with completely different configurations, some with 2 lamps some with 4.Sometimes the projectors are inners, sometimes outers. Can someone give me an idea of the development of the lights please? What is the most recent spec? Why so many changes?

Airbag Warning Light

Before Christmas Mrs Statto had a very low speed prang in our Roomster (pulled away at a roundabout before the car in front had moved off ) which caused a reasonable amount of damage to the front end. All got repaired by the insurers at Nationwide, and everything seemed fine.

However, a couple of days ago the airbag warning light came on (as usual during start-up) and didn't turn off again. Is this likely to be something caused by the accident, and is it likely to be safe to drive (ie is the airbag liable to go off without warning, or is it more likely not to go off in an accident)

Also, Crawley Down have quoted me £40-80 just to diagnose the problem. Is this a realistic price, or are they ripping me off?

As the Roomy didn't look like it had much of a checkover before sale and the tyres looked like they all had different pressures in them, I thought I'd check them this morning. I looked in all the usual places, door shuts, under the bonnet, in the boot but couldn't find any reference. I then spent half an hour looking through the handbook all to no avail.

Eventually I found on page 188 in the owners handbook "The tyre inflation pressure for summer tyres is indicated on the inside of the fuel filler flap". Whaaaat?!! Come on Skoda, this is NOT good enough! Every car I've ever owned has the correct tyre pressures for all the various tyre sizes IN THE HANDBOOK! Not on the fuel filler flap!

So after reading some older threads I see the Cupra bushes are much better. Upto 70K now, I am planning on keeping the car to the death.
I picked up the Roomy today after putting a dent in my bank balance. It was dark when I eventually dragged myself screaming and kicking out of the showroom! Anyway, driving home in rush hour heavy traffic in a strange car was a bit unnerving but we survived. I did 30 miles in it tonight and I'm very impressed.
My post re the info that I could get from the German sites!!!

Look at post 44

http://translate.google.co.uk/translate?hl=en&ie=UTF8&u=http://www.skodacommunity.de/skoda-forum/skoda-fabia-ii-forum/54566-armaturenbrett-beleuchtung-dimmen-beim-fabia-2-die-l%25C3%25B6sung/

3B0 941 531 A 01C * Light switch with fog light, green [Octavia] *

This is a rotary switch with the dimmer built into the switch (small knob on right side) from a MKI Octavia??

""""This light switch from the Skoda Octavia has the controls for the instrument lighting
already integrated and can be exchanged for the normal light switch, if
the old brightness slider was staked. The lighting on the light switch pin is
now an output, it would be a normal input.
All this makes sense only if you have a car with xenon lights, where the
Headlamp leveling system is missing already. Then the space freed up for other
Tinkering can be used. For example, for a USB flash drive

All have the brightness control BTS730 Siemens chip inside, it can theoretically
settle at room temperature of 100 degrees Celsius is still 10 amps. Chip also has an overload protection, over temperature protection and short circuit
Protection, so really he should not go broke ..... actually. """"""

And by reading the various threads it looks like you have to disconnect pin17 on plug (gr/bl Grey/blue???) wire and isolate, and then connect pin 16 (gr/gn Grey/Green????) to pin17!!!

Picture of plug and pin nos????

Thats all the info I could translate, as it seems that a worker at the factory that makes them was giving advice!!!

I still can't belive that Skoda have ditched this feature from the MKI Fabia......(I use mine alot as I find the dash lights distracting on max!)........I know that when mine "goes" and I have to replace it theres alot of work I will have to do to get it to the spec as my MKI!!!!

Someone needs to be the guinne pig and try this!!!!!

"door open" sensor is triggering alarm

Hello there

The alarm on our 08 Roomster has kept going off over the last few days.

After checking windows, loose bits inside and so on I realised that the "map-of-the-car" (no idea what this is really called) electronic display on the dash was flashing. It became clear that the system thinks the driver's door is open even when the door is physically closed (and locked). This then triggers the alarm. I am double-pressing the door lock button on the key fob and this appears to be helping but, having said that, the alarm just went off outside I as I compose this post.

I am not sure how to lock the doors without activating the alarm. Double-clicking the fob button (same as using the in-door button) merely turns off the in-car vibration sensors - the alarm will still activate if it thinks the door is open. I can leave the car unlocked but it's not really ideal to leave my car unprotected.

We are really annoying the neighbours (with a young baby) and I would love to fix this myself - I would prefer to avoid the cost of a garage visit if possible.

I assume that the door has a pressure switch somewhere but I cannot find anything obvious. There's a metal tag at the base of the door that fits into a slot below the door sill but that doesn't immediately appear to be relevent. Does anyone have any clues where to start?

Thanks

brake binding

My 07 Roomster TDi has developed an issue with what I think is the brakes binding. When the car has not been used for a while, say overnight, a groaning noise can be heard for a second or so when pulling away, sometimes immediately, and sometimes when I accelerate from a standstill within a couple of minutes of driving off in the morning.

I thought the obvious thing would be the handbrake, but I tried not applying the handbrake one night and just left the car in gear to see whether it was that, but the noise still occurred so I'm not sure.

So far, the economy doesn't seem to have suffered because of this, but it is difficult to say as the colder weather causes economy to suffer anyway.

It isn't due for a service for another eight months; is it best to get it looked at, or is there an easy way of determining whether it needs more urgent attention?

Hi there!
I'm looking to get a towbar fitted for my Roomster 2, but I'm a bit confused. It says in the manual (under where it says towbars are optional) that Roomsters come with fitted electrics- does this mean that I do not need to get a fitter to do the electrics, as they are already there, or they are prepped for, or they are still an optional extra. I haven't looked for any yet as I am a new mum with baby brain! Any advice would be gratefully received, so I can get some accurate quotes

1.2 TSI 105hp NOISES

After 8k miles with my 4/2011 roomster tsi 105hp I am pretty satisfied of its engine and particularly for economy and torque values.

Though, I noticed that the engine seems to be getting more rumbling at low revs vith the passing of time and miles (or km in my case...).
Furthermore, I am constantly hearing a ticking noise coming from the engine. A service guy told me it is normal and it is coming from the injection. Lately, it seems like this noise has become louder.

Has anybody experienced the same, or it is just an impression of mine, having become accustomed to the engine's own noises?
And, has anybody had the ECU updated and noticed those noises had diminished after the update?
