Hi All,
For a few days now I noticed an annoying rattle, as if something was loose in one of the rear doors, and was rolling back and forth each time the car accellerated or decelerrated. So I pried the bottom of the door "card" a few milimeters, (loosened a small torx screw) and five small plastic, yellow balls, 6mm diameter fell out. The door is silent now :-) but, I am starting to worry: where did they come from, and won't they be missed?
Anybody has an idea?

This is from another topic...

takktakk, on 07 February 2012 - 22:32, said:

Later in the year Colombus will also come with DAB.

Hi takktakk,

What do you know about the Columbus coming with DAB later this year then? Do you know something or are you just speculating.

In April 2011 Skoda Auto announced that MY12 Superbs would be available with the Amundsen sat nav system which could optionally include a DAB receiver. See here. The Amundsen arrived in the SE Plus model but I'm not aware that a DAB version ever made it to the UK, even though VW offer it in their equivalent unit. Did any other country get an Amundsen unit including DAB? I was slightly bemused at the time thinking why would they fit DAB to the SE Plus without being able to offer it to customers of their flagship model, the Elegance?

I've had DAB for the last 5 years, and I don't want to be without it, but I have an Elegance estate on order and so no DAB. My build date has just gone back from week 5 to week 14 so I'd be very interested if anyone knows anything about this. It wasn't good news having to wait an extra 9 weeks but if I end up with DAB it'll be the best news this year so far. I think I'll drop an email to Skoda UK customer services. Anyone out there know anything concrete?

cheers Simon

Starting to get a little disappointed

Until last week my impressions of my Superb has been really good. There have been some slight issues like rattles from the interior, unbalanced wheels/front chassie etc. But last week when we went for a skiing trip the car was difficult to start. When it finally started it only was going on three cylinders. After getting a little warmer it ran as ususal again. This time it was -20 C. A few days later when it was time to head home it didn't start at all. I had to get a friend to jumpstart the car. This time it was -25 degrees C. The car is only a couple of months old so Im very surprised. I called Skoda after getting home again and they want to diagnose the car.

Then yesterday the left mirror started to fold out more than it should. I turns around 180 degrees and almost points forward. The only thing to prevent this is to stop it by force when its folding out. A friend of mine have had this happen as well but he hasnt been in for service yet.

I have also heard some "clonking" sounds from the front suspension when going over bumps in lower speeds. This has only occured 3-4 times but it doesn't feel any good.

Overall I´m very happy with the Superb but those problems are starting to throw a shadow over the positive things...

Octavia Diesel Scout or Superb 4X4 CR

I'm in a bit of a quandary, it's time to let my trusted Octy go and perhaps more grudgingly my Fab to fund a 4x4. I presumed I'd go for the Scout, the natural progression from my standard Octavia but checking nationally for used two to three year olds I keep finding Superb 4x4 CR's similar or cheaper than than even a PD Scout. Even on sites like Autobid a new standard Superb 140 4x4 is similar priced to the scout with just a couple of added options.

I've had the Octy over 5 years and would keep my next motor for at least that. I want 4x4 primarily for towing my van on small grassed caravan sites and rallies on farm fields so don't need a pucker 4x4 just the added traction especially on wet/sodden rough grass.

I know I should be looking at whole life costs but my head has been turned by the Superb and it's bells and whistles. There's a dealer sale Superb 170 Elegance 4x4, low miles 59 plate up for 16K, I can't find a Scout for that. I would be trading in the Octy and either trade or private sale the Fab. My wife would occasionally need to drive and would miss the ease of driving the Fab.

My question is, which would be the better choice from the towing generally perspective and on grass in particular. I've posted this on the Octy forum aswell.

GLOWPLUG FLASHING AND ENGINE WORKSHOP

Another Newbie to the site with a four year old Skoda Superb (pre 2008 model, but 2.0 PD with PDF).

Recently it has started to warn me of Engine Workshop! and having the flashing glowplug indicator: this occurs randomly and usually after some miles e.g. 20+. It regularly gets motorway runs of 80-100 miles (recent journeys have included Leicester to Yeovil)with the job I have and is rarely used for just "pottering" around towns. I was warned by the Dealer when I bought it that short journeys can cause the PDF to clog up with soot, but told my journeys (mainly motorways and major A-roads over long distances) would mean I shouldn't have problems here, plus I have never seen the DPF warning indicator come on other than part of the normal ignition check sequence when turning on. VAG-COM check via Independant garage suggests this is the case though and they suggest cleaning of DPF required, but worried that I haven't seen any other warning, or been forced into limp home mode via the ECU, so wondering if there are any known faults with sensors or electrics?

I would expect that DPF is checked via ECU for soot levels, and would warn via DPF indicator first and then Engine Workshop and Glowplugs warning would occur only if this had been ignored: I would also expect it to have been put into some osrt of Limp Home mode. The fact it has jumped from nothing to engine warning appears to suggest it either hasn't checked properly, has a faulty sensor perhaps, or something else is causing the problem (other electrical sensors on the same circuit perhaps)?

Today I ordered my Superb L&K, moving up from the Octavia vRS.

The dealer convinced me of the beautiful look of the all brown interior. It's alligned with the new paint called Magnetic Brown. Dealer said it "sounds odd but looks very well".
Reason for picking L&K was significant money saved compared to upping an Elegance to the same level. I ticked every tickable box...
What do you guys think of the interior with piano trim? Have the Czechs gone completely mad, or does it look it's exclusive part?

Does the clutch pedal pulsate in the Superb TDi 140CR?

Hi everyone,
I'm an Octavia owner but thinking of changing to a Superb. One of my dislikes about the Octavia is that the clutch pedal pulsates, most noticeably when you change from 4th to 3rd and are releasing the clutch. Dealer says its normal and is due to the Dual Mass Flywheel and I've driven several other VAG 2.0TDi cars including an Audi A6 which also did it. Whilst it may be a normal "feature" of this engine and 6 speed gearbox combination it really spoils the driving experience for me.

By the way I've owned several other DMF equipped diesels including Volvo with D5 engine, 2007 Passat with PD engine, Peugeot 2.0 HDi and none of them did it.

Does the Superb with the CR140 engine also do it?

Superb starting problem

Starting Problem Skoda Elegance 2.5 V6 diesel reg. 2005

If my car is left for 2 to 3 hours after a run it is then difficult to start again.

The run may be a longish run (e.g. 20 miles), after which the engine is at proper working temperature; or it may be a very short run (e.g. 1 mile), after which the engine is still cold.

It can take 3 or 4 attempts on the starter before the engine starts. When engine does start it is initially accompanied by a short burst of smoke from the exhaust (i.e. a build up unburned diesel, due to repeated attempts to start). Sometimes it helps to start by depressing accelerator slightly.

The problem has been getting much worse recently.

Note:	There is no problem starting from cold (e.g. first thing in the morning).
Also, no problem starting after a short stop.

The problem was first reported to a Skoda dealer when it was last in for service (Nov. 2010). They did a diagnostic check which didn’t show up anything. However, they did do an update recommended by Skoda – to do with engines failing to start when warm (I think).

Also, a new fuel filter was fitted at that service.

The problem still persisted.

I have now just had the car in again at another Skoda dealer. They also ran a diagnostics check, but again no fault codes were reported. However, they also did a battery check, which reported that the battery was ‘good’ (showing 12.15 volt), but with ‘recharge’ also shown on the report.

I am a little skeptical about whether the battery is the problem. Considering the fact that I first reported this problem some 15 months ago, then if it was a battery problem I would have thought the battery would be well shot by now. Also, the battery seems to be turning the engine over OK.

Possibilities:

I have mentioned other possibilities to the Skoda dealer – i.e.

(i)	Do the glow plugs need replacing? The car has done 60,000 miles, and is nearly 7 years old. The dealer is adamant that it is not the glow plugs, saying if anything was amiss it would show up on the diagnostics check.

(ii)	Is the glow plug pre-glow system thinking the engine is warm, when in fact it isn’t?

Any ideas will be much appreciated.

Better reversing lights - at last

Hi

I finally managed to brighten up the reversing lights on my Superb. The trick is to put stronger bulbs and in addition to put a load sharing relay to rear 12V socket. A relay is neccessary because even with stock bulbs the voltage at the reversing lights is a pitiful 10V, with uprated bulbs it drops to a silly 8.5V. Net effect of adding the relay is 11.6V at the bulb for 2x 35W 860lm lights, and about 3x (three) times more light than stock install (stock bulb is 460lm at 12V, but only 200lm at 10V).

If you just do the relay and stay with stock bulbs, you get 2x more light.

Here is what you need:

2x Ancor GY6.35 to BA15S low profile bulb adapter, got it from Internet somewhere. Must be low profile, high profile adapters as sold for most LEDs will make the bulbs stick out too far.

2x Osram Halostar IRC bulbs GY6.35 12V, 4000hrs, either 25W/560lm if you tend to use reversing lights for a long time or 35W/860lm if not, I got mine from Screwfix. These are halogen HIR bulbs, quite efficient and very long living so you are likely to only need them once. You need to cut bulb's legs a little to fully fit in the adapter.

1x fused relay, I had an old one from Halfords, put 15A fuse in it

2x 90SQ045 or similar high current Schottky diode, these are 9A/45V, anything over 6A/25V is OK, from Maplin/RS/Farnell/Rapid/Conrad, take your pick

First step is to put the diodes in line with reverse lights, at rear cluster plugs, diode stripe on the bulb side. I use crimp connectors. At this point it makes sense to also crimp in 1 cable each side from the bulb end to the relay, and 1 cable from the other diode end (on one side only) to drive the relay. This completes a bypass circuit which will come in handy should relay fail or if cigarette lighter fuse blows. You can run load cable to the other light above trunk opening, under the parcel shelf.

The relay gets connected in the following way:
85: reversing lights in (ie not bulbs, the other diode end),
86: ground,
30: boot cigarette lighter socket +,
87: both reversing light bulbs (after diodes).

The relay can be mounted on bottom outer light cluster mounting screw, you need 1 additional nut and a spring washer or locktite/superglue.

Whilst I was at it, I also connected grounds on each light cluster to chassis (inside metal panels behind the sound proofing). This buys another 0.2V at each light, and for all lights, stop/fog etc. I also grounded cigarette lighter socket there. Dremel small holes, clean surround to shiny metal, screw in small cable eylets (I used small M3 eylets with old computer case screws and twin beryllium copper washers on each side. Coat finished and connected ground points with some vaseline or other grease of your choice to prevent corossion.

Finally, put the bulbs in, wrap/protect all cables and you're good to go

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/250976362317?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
which is supposedly oem and comes with all the wiring harnesses (minus actual iPod lead) for plug and play, but according to the seller, it will still need to be coded in order to get the steering wheel remote and dash display to work. The car has a bolero head unit by the way.

My questions to you are:
Are there other kits available that don’t need coding and can literally be plugged in and will work 100% correctly?

What exactly would happen if it wasnt coded? would it play, but just not show up on the dash display and not be able to be controlled by the steering wheel?

Anyone know where I can get coding done reliably and professionally in or near to Suffolk?

Thanks

Hi All

Yesterday, I had a new problem, squeal, >2300rpm, the battery light (alternator) comes on.

I have read online that this could possibly be the alternator clutch pulley on its way out ?.
faster and the light comes on - as above. Alternator service light comes on as message on dash....

I can drive upto 70MPH, any clues please ?

Also, what is the process in removing the pulley from Alternator, don't fancy spending money on a new Alternator.

Superb 2009 TDI Surge

Hi,

I am from New Zealand and have a Skoda Superb 2009 103kw TDI. I am having a slight problem with the engine surging sometimes when going up a hill, it happens when the engine is warm and normally on a long incline. The dealer cant find any fault codes. I am sure I read somewhere that this is a known problem and can be fixed with a remap, eg Shark, Any info would be great.

Thanks

870 miles on the clock and stranded!

Hi everyone,

Well, here's one to make my "dashboard reflection" problem look a bit tame.

Working late tonight, gets in, only to have TCS and Tyre Pressure warning lights on and they won't go away, no matter what combination of "ignition on / ignition off", press TCS or Tyre Pressure reset I tried.

Oh, and no power steering at all ie undriveable.

Fortunately, I had the Skoda Assist info in the glovebox and give them credit, they had an RAC van / man there in what, 45 mins?

He then also spotted that the Power Steering warning light was on.

He tried the basic resets (including disconnect battery), but no joy and we agreed there was no point in trying again / moving until the morning.

While I was back onto Skoda Assist, he ran some diagnostics and came up with "Steering Angle Sensor "(or something similar).)

Again, credit to Skoda Assist, they sorted me a taxi back.

From a quick search on the whole site, this seems to come up a lot on Fabia, occasionally on Octavia, but certainly nothing under Superb II.

At 870 miles on the clock, this is an honour that I can seriously do without !!

Further inspection / collection booked for mid-morning tomorrow (Weds) - I'll keep you posted.

(Incidentally, I had the problem very briefly last week, but aforesaid on / off / reset etc seemed to clear - I put it down to Tyre Pressure warning because of not checking pressures since delivery, WRONG, I think.)

But here's the big question.

While I can accept it as the proverbial "one of those things", (though the dealer will be getting an earful in the morning), any suggestions on my wife's immediate reaction of "no confidence, get rid".

What size of rims on winter tyres?

Hello.

I was wondering what size your rims are in the winter?

I am about to buy a new set now, but cant decide between 16¨ and 17¨... I guess the 16¨ will be the most comfortable, but for sure the 17¨ will look better..
