Bolero SD card woes

Hi there,

My first posting so go easy on me! I’ve read with a lot of interest the various posts about how to improve the performance of the Bolero SD card media player. After 6 months of happy ownership of my new Octavia I finally got fed up with the performance of the media player. I have a Bytestor 16GB Class 4 SDHC card, loaded about ¾ full with files in nested directories, i.e. “Artist” directories in the root with “Album” subdirectories beneath. It worked fine, but as everyone else has said, it’s agonizingly slow starting up and navigating between directories. So yesterday I decided I’d try and follow some of the advice about how to format the card. With a little help from the bolero_sd_organizer programme I now have a 9-deep directory structure, beneath which I have the same “Artist” and “Album” nested directories, with a small mp3 file and a load of playlists in the root. However something very strange has happened which makes me think it’s not going to work. I was happily playing an “album” playlist when, 7 tracks into the album, the player froze at the start of a new track having just gotten as far as loading the ID3 tags. No amount of ejecting and reinserting the card or powering off the head unit would make it load the card again – it just sat there with the “please wait” message forever. I thought I’d manage to break my head unit somehow. However I removed all the files off the card, put one mp3 file on it and tried again, hey presto it worked. So I reloaded all my files as before; it worked again, but jumping to the same track it froze again in exactly the same way. There wouldn't seem to be anything wrong with the playlist itself because it plays back fine from the card inserted into my PC via Windows Media Player. Has anyone experienced this before and any idea how I can stop it happening?

Thanks in anticipation

Hi I was wondering if anyone could help, i have installed a Double Din Head unit in my Fabia vrs and all is fantastic while the engine is running or ignition is on or even in accessory mode. But as soon as i take the Key out my speakers start ticking about every second. I have double checked the wiring and connections and all is correct. I have also tried various different Grounds to to connect the negative wire to from battery to body work and back to using stock ground with no difference what so ever. I have fitted quite a few head units previous with no problems. Any help would be Fantastic :Sor if you know a car audio fitter who would be able to install it for me in chesterfield area.

mdf2 or columbus?

Hi first of all - I'm new here but been ghosting for a while...

I'm thinking of adding sat nav into my 56 octy ambiente (so no maxidot or steering wheel controls or anything). I drive a lot, and often to new places as I work freelance so am fed up with tomtom battery lifes and cabling and things.

From what I've found online I can get a second hand mdf2 with current maps for £200-250 or a columbus for £500-600. I've used a columbus as my dad has one in his seat altea and I've borrowed it a few times, and generally was impressed (as is he) despite the postcode entry. Obviously I'm aware that the columbus is a much better unit - touchscreen, etc, but I'm on a tight budget and wondered basically a) how user-friendly the mdf2 is compared to the touchscreen columbus? with updated maps/software, how noticeable the difference of route calculation times, etc? c) any other factors?

essentially, is not being able to play dvds and not getting touchscreen worth twice the price when all I really want is the sat nav?

Cheers, great forum here. Sorry about the workhorse car, I'm working my way up: T reg felicia, 53 reg fabia, and now a 56 octy...octy vrs next I hope

Odd question - CD volume

Hi,
I bought a Mk1 Octavia vRS Estate a few weeks ago and all is wonderful!

However, I've noticed something a little unusual when playing a CD I have just bought. Basically when I turn up the volume control, there is no actual increase in volume after reaching an indicated level of 21 on the volume control (it goes up to approx. 43). This is in contrast to other CD's which I have tried which are too painful to listen to (due to volume) at an indicated volume of 30. I've done a quick Google but couldn't find a satisfactory explanation. The stereo in the car is standard with the standard 6CD changer. The CD was bought from Amazon and fulfilled by their preferred supplier IndigoStarFish. The CD arrived unsealed (which appears to be pretty standard for IndigoStarFish) but did appear to be brand new. I can listen to the CD perfectly well, it's not that it is whisper quiet, it's just that when I want to crank the volume up a bit for a favourite track it doesn't respond.

If anyone has any thoughts I'd be very interested to hear them. Is it possible the CD is somehow faulty (the quality of the sound is fine, it's just the limited volume that's annoying)?

Columbus Issues - Please Help!

Sorry if any of this has been covered before but i'm posting this at work and don't have time to do a proper search!!!

I have a 2008 '58' Superb Elegance with the Columbus and in-built Bluetooth system. I have recently changed mobile phones from a Nokia E71 to a Samsung Galaxy S. I did some research before deciding on the Galaxy as I wanted my new handset to pair with the hands-free kit. I tested the phone before I handed over any money and we managed to get the phone to pair ok (after some persuasion) although it was a demo set - not the handset I now have. I am now having some issues getting the phone to connect and I need some assistance:-

1) When I initially turn the ignition on the system attempts to connect to the 2 previous phones not my current phone. Is it possible to remove the previous phones from the Columbus?? If so, how??

2) When I do get the new phone to pair the Columbus shows 'No Network' even though the phone still shows full signal strength. With the E71 the phone would show no signal as the Columbus had taken over the controls. Is this a handset issue or Columbus issue??

Many thanks in advance!!!!!

Hi,
I'm new to this forum, so please bear with me.

I've recently bought an Octavia Elegance on a '51 plate. When got it home I found the CD player wont play. It takes the Cd's but on the head unit it reads "CD1 TRACK 1" and then nothing happens, if I take out CD1 it reads "CD 2 TRACK 1" and so on up to CD 6. I have bought another changer and tried that, but the same thing happens which looks to me like the fault lies elswhere.
When I checked out the original CD changer I found that the rear screenwash pipe wash disconnected an had wet the plug and socket. I've dried these out and still have the same problem !.

the Cd's load ok in the changer but the head unit wont let them play, they spin for a bit then just stop!

any help would really be appreciated as I haven't a clue what the next step is.

Bolero preout lead?

I've done a fair bit of searching on here and couldn't really find an answer to this, so forgive me if I'm asking something already answered...

I currently have a 07 Fabia vRS SE with standard Skoda Head Unit, which has one of these adaptors connected to the back of it:

http://www.bluespot.co.uk/car-audio.aspx/7607893093-adaptor

Which gives me the preouts to connect it to the Blaupunkt THB200A Active subwoofer under my seat:

http://www.bluespot.co.uk/car-audio.aspx/thb200a-speaker

It does a good enough job for me of just improving things a bit over the standard setup.

Next month if all goes to plan I will be changing to a 170TDi Yeti Elegance which I understand has the Bolero head unit.

I would like to take the Subwoofer unit out of my Fabia and put it in the Yeti.

So on to my question - will the same preout adaptor that connects to my Fabia HU plug into the Bolero (doubtful, knowing my luck), or alternatively, can someone point me at what adaptor cable I need instead, and is it just a simple plug in job again like it is with the Fabia?

I've found the threads on here about how to actually remove the Bolero to hopefully plug in whatever is needed, just would like to know what I actually need to buy assuming its not the same connections as the Fabia.

Many thanks in advance for any help and guidance.

So colour me surprised when my Admiral renewal arrived in the post this morning at only £353! That's an astonishingly sensible increase of 20 quid.

Am I the first person in the history of the world to have a sensible renewal price? Normally (even pre-remap and pre-Octy) renewals were always stupid increases of £100 or so.

Symphony Conversion

Hi,

A Newbie here but have searched around but not really found a definitive answer.

I have a 56 plate Fabia Sport with a Symphony stereo. I'm trying to find the easiest way of allowing my mobile phone play music through the car headunit/speakers.

The head unit has the multi disc facility in the head unit but would like to keep the CD facility for the kids CDs.

Is there another Skoda headunit I could swap to that would allow this facility os it is a case of swapping to aftermarket which I really don't want to do............................

Thanks,
Bury comes with ISO lead, but can anyone advise if its possible to re-jig the CK7W loom to fit the Bury connections. This will save removing the Radio/Sat Nav unit, as Nokia loom can be accessible from side of tunnel cover.

Estate Install - But I Still Want To Use Boot - Suggestions?

Hi. I've got the mk2 Octavia 4x4 estate and i wouldn't mind putting in a better sound setup. I've already installed my old Alpine XD-001, but haven't touched the speakers. I like the idea of a sub and amp set up, but i would still need to use the boot with seats down. The car was bought for carrying bikes! I've seen installs where the sub is mounted behind the rear arch in the side in other cars, passat, golf, etc. Anyone got any pics of an Octavia install? I'm thinking amp in one side, sub in other. I also need to upgrade speakers at some point.
I'm not looking for out and out bass, just a good healthy clear sound. Cheers

TDi Estate boot install

Decided after buying a very nice head unit and replacing the speakers i fancied a little more bass so decied to do a discreet sub and amp install in the boot.

I do alot of surfing so i didnt want something big in the boot or in a postion where it could get salt water ingress etc...

So as i have the false floor in my octavia i decided to use the large amount of space behind the spare wheel in the wheel well, After removing the polystyrene bit i relised that there was more than enough space to get a sub and am mounting in there so that the false floor could still close if need be!

i am running 2x in-phase XT8 1000 watt subs off of a SPLX 300w bridged amp, Made an open sub box and soundproofed the various metal areas in the wheel well, carpeted and fitted, i did it over a week or so but probably only took a few hours to fully complete!

Very impressed with quality of the bass and the subs and amp themselves, easy to wire in and look pretty good i think!

What do you think ?!?

Tweeters that fit snugly in the Octy.

Well, i blew the standard tweeters in my car when i fitted my Alpine head unit....the stock speakers werent much use either.
So i replaced the front door and rear shelf speakers with alpine ones:
Alpine SXE - 1725 S in the front
Alpine SXE - 1325 S in the rear

Both fit straight into the old spaces, but it missed a little at the front as the door speakers are so low down.
Bought a pair of "Fusion EN-TW05" tweeters from ebay, only £5.00 so was going to bin them if they were no good, but they fitted straight into the space where the old tweeters were, sit ontop of the old mounts with a little black tape to hold in place and they work wonderful :0)
So if anyone needs any tweeters for the front door then these are a bargain at £5 :0)

I have a Mk1 Octavia, no idea if the Mk2 or Fabia use similar parts for the front doors.

EDIT: btw these speakers wont give very much bass at all, i have an amp/sub in the boot for that. Just a warning incase your expecting a bit of bass from the Alpine speakers.
