| I am now the proud owner of an absolutely minted 89 G Skoda Rapid 136. 24000 miles with full skoda history, 1 years mot, full body kit, twin lamp grill, origanal alloys, minted in and out, webber carb, ashley exhaust. I never thought i would have so much fun in an old skoda! ![]() Now im getting the skoda 'garage' that ive always wanted. Ive got a modded vrs Fabia, the rapid and now id like to find a replica works estelle. This is my first 'old' skoda of the rear engined variety and im having a ball! Am i right in thinking though, that if and when the engine goes (although its running like a dream and the temp needle is constantly half way), they are quite easy to do an engine transplant from another non-skoda vehicle? Rover V8 with twin plenems anyone? Or maybe just a chv from a carb XR2? Either way, im well chuffed. The only thing that lets it down is the dull paintwork but im hoping that after i turn into pop-eye the paintwork will shine like new. On the plus side though, there is not a single spot of rust and the car has never been welded and is unbelievably fresh underneath. ![]() ![]() EDIT - just how many of these are still on the go in the uk? They must be getting rare now, especially in this nick with this miles Last edited by turboman6680; 21-03-2008 at 07:37. |

| Glad you're enjoying your new purchase, though it's very difficult not to enjoy these cars to be honest!Keep with the Skoda engines, the extra weight of most other engines don't do the handling any favours. Last time it was checked about 3 years ago there were 43 Rapids registered. I reckon there are more than that if you counted all the ones lying about un-sorned/registered but even so there aren't hundreds about. There seems to be several though at a garage I know in Royston, Herts!

| Hi Party people! Right, just got the 'beast' today as i've just not had the time to go and collect. Pics will follow tommorow. First impressions are Seems to be very (obviously) light at the front as i accidently locked the front wheels in the rain on the way back Sounds gorgeous with the bits on it Drivers seat seems to have a fair bit of 'play' - as if its only secured on one side? Charging system seems to be poor - indicators slow when speed/revs drop but car starts fine Very VERY tight to drive VERY quick steering Suprisingly pokey And in the sleet, the drivers wiper decided to sweep way off to the right and rest against the side mirror - me thinks theres a bolt needing a tightning somewhere! Pics will be grubby due to weather and also car paint is very dull hence the before and after shots....... .......update tommorow. ![]() |

| From your last post , these are all perfectly normal!! put a flagstone wrapped in carpet in the front end to give the front end a bit of bite on the road or as i did with my estelles and rapids, fill an old wheel and tyre with concrete and put it where the spare usually sits . Thit puts the weight lower down
