Default Rapide Distributor Change

After doing some poking round, it appears that a Favourit distributor will fit my 1990 136 Rapide engine, getting rid of the horrible points. Is there a Howto or guide anywhere that I've missed? Also on Fleecebay there are 2 different ones pre '93 & post '93 am I right to assume I need pre '93. Last question this time honest, do I need anything else as well?

Cheers in advance

It'll certainly fit physically, but you'll also need the little box of electronics that interprets the magnetic pickup signal from the dissie and turns it into sparks. You'd better get the coil off the Fav as well, since the Rapid one is almost certainly substantially different in characteristics. The gubbins is all mounted on the right wing and it's pretty obvious what's what - just follow a few wires!

The post-1993 Fav had fuel injection instead of a carb but I would imagine the dissie and associated electronics are not much different - there may be some difference in advance curve. Use an early version setup for preference.

My other alternative I thought of was replacing it with a Megajolt (as I have all the Edis stuff already). But then will need a 36-1 toothed rotor on the crankshaft, is there a ready made option off another engine or am I going to have to get one fabricated which will probably be even more expensive.

That sounds a lot more trouble than the dissie swap!

The distributor body is similar but the associated electronics are totally different. There is an engine management system that controls both the fuel system [SPi] and ignition system, totally different set up to the pre 1993 carb'd Favorit.

Silly of me, I should have walked out into the street to check mine! I was forgetting that the EMS is all in the same box of tricks. Actually I may even have the relevant bits of electronics from my previous (carburetted) Favorit - I'll get up in the loft later and have a look.
