Bit of timely inconvenience each time you park though, surely?

Or drive a Citroen DS, GS, CX or SM, and dump the hydraulic pressure every time you park. Then they can't clamp you cos the clamp won't fit!

Re: Real Mk1 Octavias

I've found not going to Camden in daylight since,
is a good way of avoiding being clamped there!
But carrying 2 clamps or having hydraulic suspension would work too I guess.

Back on topic ....
The V5C arrived for the blue one today....

But far better than coming back to your car after a rough day to find a clamp and a note on the windscreen with a phone number asking for £60 when you just want to get on your way Plus you get the satisfaction of having one up on the w*****s who clamp any car they see to get their bonuses.

It must be an Octavia thing ....
the Combi was 1 owner from new too (35 years!)
My Green TDI Octy is my longest serving vehicle at 3.5 years,
although I've done 95k in that time.

As for "Goyle" parts, there's a handful of people on here understand my username.
The last parts we picked up needed an 80t crane, that cost over £2k per day to hire!
Big boy's toys!!

Yes the blue one has the cute factor, but I'm smitten with the combi too.

Re: Real Mk1 Octavias

I see the Combi comes complete with a Feu Orange air freshener. My Grandad used to have those in all his cars, a Riley 1.5, Vanden Plas 1300 and Austin 1100. Do they still make them? It's a very distinctive smell, Feu Orange, Balkan Sobranie pipe tobacco and Austin upholstery. Those were the days.

I've got to admit, I first noticed it on a photo too.
It definitely smells like an old car though.

Austin 1100, hmm, John Cleese in Clockwise springs to mind?

Yes I inherited the 1100 when he gave up driving, it was a luxury replacement for my Triumph Herald (which was fitted with a spitfire 1200 twin carb engine). I used to beat the 1100 regularly with a stick though, worst car I have ever driven, and I have driven some awful cars in my time.

Talking of classic BL stuff ...
I remember my dad's Marina being in for repairs,
he was given a Maxi as a courtesy car.
He couldn't seem to find any gears connected to the gear stick.
Bear in mind he was a trucker, used to a choice of 16 gears,
he'd expected to find some of the 4 on offer!

To paraphrase ...
Vorsprung durch Czechnik, if only everything in life was reliable as a Skoda!

He was complaining of a stiff neck, as he had to drive it everywhere in reverse!

Oh yes, according to Wikipedia, the car in Clockwise was a Morris 1100,
whereas the infamous "beating with a stick" was an Austin 1300.

Somone told me there's an old Octy in "On the buses"
I'll have to keep my eyes peeled, although there's 74 episodes!!!!

Yes JC had an 1100 in fawlty Towrs, however the film clockwise, which he also starred in features an austin 1100 throughtout the entire field and many scenes take place either in the front of the 1100 or outside it with the 100 in the shot. It is a fabulous film and contains some great shots of period traffic.

According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clockwise_(film)
Clockwise stars a Morris 1100 and Fawlty Towers stars an Austin 1300.
