Default Track Day Poll

Looks like Sept/October is the best bet for people and Bruntingthorpe is the prefered venue.

Initial prices looks like being about £80 per car for 45 cars.

Date looks like being either September or October, I'm trying to get either a Saturday or Sunday.

We will have to open this up to other marques as there is no way we will be able to do this on our own, go on prove me wrong!

I am think the split of car we probably end up as follows:

about 20 assorted Skodas
20 other VAG
about 5 or 6 other marques, selected people that some of us know, have been on track with before and trust (ie my cronies )

We would have to share some of the marshalling

- Briefing and splitting into 2 groups
- Group 1, novices and lower powered cars, have 2 sighting laps, followed by a 20 -30 minute session
- Group 2, experienced drivers, have 2 sighting laps, followed by a 20 -30 minute session
- Group 1, novices and lower powered cars, have 2 sighting laps, followed by a 20 -30 minute session
- Group 2, experienced drivers, have 2 sighting laps, followed by a 20 -30 minute session
- Then open pit free for all, max 20 cars on track
- At lunch, if it Bruntingthorpe, top speed runs for those who want to down the 2 mile straight. We can rustle up GPS units and performance metres
- After lunch, open pit free for all, max 20 cars on track

Novice drivers / cars to be identified by yellow dot on rear of car, this will work to everyones benefit

Oh it will be payment in advance as I don't have £3,500 in cash lying about to pay for this!

What say you?

Hang on a cotton pickin' minute...! I used to live about 6 miles from Bruntingthorpe in Leic. If the National Meet were to change to here, and involve the track-day as above then I'd be more up for this, than going to Oulton Park. I'll wait and see what others say first. Also handy having relations nearby to kip with too.

PS: This is where they blew up that Jumbo Jet to see what would happen after the Pan-Am thingy up in Lockerbie. I used to see that jet all the while when driving around that area. Funnily enough after the test it disappeared...

I've voted "possibly". I'm concerned about the inclusion of people from other groups. I feel I know enough people on this forum now to feel comfortable with the general attitude etc. I do NOT want to get into a (for example) Octavia vs. Leon testosterone-filled "ours are quicker than yours" session.

Call me a granny if you like - just my 2p worth.

After having given this a lot of thought I'm affraid my vote was No. A number of reasons, one being that I will be unemployed in 3 weeks time and for an unknown period. Not knowing when I will be able to spend money again means that all but primary needs are put on hold and saved up as it might pay for another month mortgage.

Another reason is that I really like to spend my first time on a track as a spectator, to get a feel for it and to not upset my family too much. I went from slow family saloon to fast and furious in 2 weeks and she has trouble keeping up with me...

So if there is room for spectators (who dont have to pay full whack) then count me in (date permitting), but otherwise I'm affraid I'll have to give it a miss.

The idea is good though.

Granny,

I have been on trackdays with the guys from seatcupra.net and, unusually for Seat drivers , have found them to be a good bunch of people. Don't forget they have the same feelings about their cars as we do about ours. No one wants to wreck their car. Marshalling is also the key. Anyone behaving like a complete knob is taken off track and given a talking to . Second offence and they are ejected from the venue (unless the first one was bad enough). This is always made very, very clear.

There are 2 ways to keep this financially viable (ie relatively cheap):

More people, as suggested above.
Hire a smaller venue.

Q,

Spectators would be a nominal fee. We'd probably use that money as our "profit" and put it towards hosting this site

Sounds like a good idea to me. Have been on the VW driver track day last year and no-one seemed to be acting like a ****! Everyone has the same idea that they get to the track in the car. They want to go home in it too!

If there is someone behind that you don't trust, then just let them by. Same if they are infront. Just slow down a bit and let them go, unless you can pass them safely on a straight!

I like the idea. I went for yes.

I'm a definate YES for this

If the mix were mostly VAG cars that would be much better than completely mixed and the cars would be mostly evenly matched.

Well, if I can come, I couldn't say that mine will be included in that "mostly" bit. But I do like the idea of it being just VAG - Its a bit more of a family thing, isn't it?

The idea of a 2 mile straight max speed attempt also appeals, especially when its actually legal.

edit: just thought. Whats the average insurance for a day / weekend on the track?

The 5 others I have in mind are one 1.7 Puma, 1 Fiesta, 2 Subarus and a Nissan. All the rest will be VAG, probably Skoda, Seat and Golfs.

Why do I have an uncomfortable feeling about "1 Fiesta" and "a Nissan" ... ? :p

Not around corners, me thinks. I'm just remembering the time I had to use an old D reg shed to get into Exeter and back daily during one of my university hols. Wouldn't go above 75 downhill, and slowed right up to 60 uphill

I found my Micra handled quite nicely in a slidey sort of way. And even 4-up managed to
do better than 60...was with a/c off though...

My first car was a Micra - it could do 115 flat out! Not modified or anything! It was a K reg 1.3 Super S 16v I certainly wouldn't have called it slow (back then anyway )
