Why is this section not being kept up to date?
It really means it is worthless as it is.

"Oi cannonman!"
we could post something really bad about Hortons just to see if they bother to check their section or would the mods pull it?

I think it's quite clear that this is out of date and Hortons aren't maintaining at the moment. Might be worth picking up the phone instead.

Re: Horton Skoda Used Car Weekend!

I wouldn't buy a car from this dealer after the way I was treated. I went to look at a Fabia vrs SE Took it out for test drive Loved, did a deal, went away for some dinner went back and put a dep down, Over the weekend thought about it and spoke to some firends and work, the way it looked I was better of staying with my Fr ibiza as it was only 08 and keep paying for that as in the long run the skoda might be cheeper now but would loose more money as it was worth less now than my ibiza. So call them up monday advised them didn't want the car any more, John day who I was dealing with then had a go at me and said I wasn't telling them the truth and wasn't good enough reason to cancel, I was all in my rights as you have 14 days to change your mind, like wise with anything contract. Then spoke to the sales manager who then again said the reason was rubbish and that I wasn't I quote "man enough" to tell them the real reason why I changed my mind. After waiting a week and many phones calls yesterday I finaly got my money back after traveling 40 miles and having to come out of work as hey wouldn't do it over the phone!

Re: Horton Skoda Used Car Weekend!

Where do you get the idea that you've automatically got 14 days to cancel a contract?

To give you an example.
If you walked into a Vodafone shop and signed up for a phone contract you would have NO cool-off time.
You would not have any cancellation time from a legal point of view.

Now it is funny you should mention Mr. Day because just recently I had dealings with him and I must say in my many years of dealing with salespeople he was actually one of the very best.

We went to look at an Octavia vRS.
We chatted via email for the week before and as I was travelling to Lincoln from Cambridge he made sure the vehicle was ready for us when we arrived.
He then took us on a no pressure tour of the vehicle before sending just me and the wife out on a test drive - no indication of when we had to be back, just enjoy ourselves.

On our return he ran through some other things with us and then we decided we'd go for lunch and think about things.
Before we went he made us aware of a couple more things he would "try to sell us" afterwards, namely Gap Insurance and the Diamond Brite - so he gave us the prices and details on that before we went for lunch so there were no surprises when we got back.

We decided to go ahead with the purchase and again John was excellent throughout the whole process.
There was a problem with the vehicle, the AC Compressor has failed, however the dealership are bending over backwards to get this sorted for us and on Wednesday this week we are getting that final thing done.

Mr. Day is what I would describe as a "veteran" salesman (an older chap if you will) however his knowledge and attitude almost certainly won him the sale in these times of "buyers market" - if the dealership had been dire we would have simply gone elsewhere.

I work for Seat so I know how it all works, with any contract eg like you said with your phone contract you have 14 days cooling off in which you can take the product back, same with buying a car on fiance

John was very good with me also at the start, did the deal all well and good and advised him that did work for Seat and that I wanted a second car along side comp one. All was good untill I worked out the money side of things and then changed my mind.

After that it all went down hill. Sales manager is a utter ...... and there whole attitude changed and took over a week to get my money back!

Re: Horton Skoda Used Car Weekend!

I think the 14 days applies under the Distance Selling regulations so that would not cover one visiting a showroom in person but would if the transaction was by phone or online.

Re: Horton Skoda Used Car Weekend!

Canonman - There is no automatic 14 day "cooling off" period when you sign a contract in person.
I'm not sure where you are getting this from - but just use Google and look-up contract cool-off periods.

A dealership can have their own rules.
As I said in my example about a mobile phone, most networks have a 14 day money back option.
So if you don't like your mobile you can simply return it.
However this is the networks offer - legally if you sign a contract in person you have no cooling-off period.

In a face to face situation there is no cooling off period.
You sign a legally binding contract and pay a deposit (usually) which is recognised in law as an undertaking or intention in good faith.
Therefore by attempting to rescind the contract, the seller has no obligation to return the deposit and could even chase you for the remainder of the cost of the car.
The only way you could rescind the contract and get your money back was if you felt that you were misold or were not in possession of all the facts so as to make an informed decision when you signed the contract.
Alternatively you simply appeal to the dealers better nature.

This is an urban myth - similar to the one "Students don't pay tax because they are students"
The Internet spreads around a lot of half-truths.
