| Škoda Auto has manufactured as many as 5,000,000 cars since 1991 when the company was taken over by the Volkswagen Group. The five-millionth car that came down the assembly line in the Mladá Boleslav factory on 1st November 2005 at 1:00 p.m., is a new Škoda Octavia Ambiente powered by a 1.6 MPI/75 kW petrol engine. The jubilee car in the Sahara beige metallic paint was donated by the Škoda Auto company to the health-visitor service in the town of Mladá Boleslav, which provides assistance to 700 senior citizens and disabled persons in the Central Bohemian Region. The Volkswagen Group entered the Czech motor works Škoda in April 1991. At that time, the company had manufactured about 170,000 units of the only range, Favorit, a year. The first result of cooperation was one of the most successful cars in the brand’s history so far - Škoda Felicia of which a record figure of 1,420,441 units were sold by the end of production in the middle of the year 2001. The brand’s first model to use the strategy of common modules and technologies shared with other cars made within the Volkswagen Group was the Škoda Octavia. For its production, new assembly works were built in Mladá Boleslav in 1996 – it is still considered to be one of the most up-to-date plants all over Europe. Simultaneously, the Škoda Octavia became a symbol of fundamental regeneration of the whole enterprise, and the start of a new path leading towards recovery of the brand’s reputation and image. For a demanding process of manufacturing the largest Škoda – the luxury Superb car – a brand-new plant was built at Kvasiny in 2001. During more than fourteen years of cooperation between the company Škoda Auto and the Volkswagen Group, all production areas including aggregate production and assembly works have been equipped with the most up-to-date technologies, and brought to fully competitive conditions. The largest number of Škoda cars, 3,756,148, has come down the line in the basic plant in Mladá Boleslav since takeover by VW Group in 1991. Today, the manufacture and assembly of Fabia and Octavia cars as well as production of engines and gearboxes designed not only for Škoda cars but also for other VW Group makes are located in Mladá Boleslav. The Vrchlabí assembly plant, which specializes in the manufacturer of the Octavia Tour cars and special versions of the Octavia model (the sporty Octavia RS and four-wheel drive cars, Octavia Estate 4x4), manufactured 727,046 cars during this period. The branch plant at Kvasiny, where assembly of the Superb model is currently concentrated and production of a new model range, Škoda Roomster, is about to be launched, has made a total of 389,697 cars since takeover by Volkswagen. Until 2000, Škoda cars were also manufactured in the Volkswagen Poznań assembly plant in Poland. At present, Škoda cars come down the assembly lines in Ukraine, Bosnia and Herzegovina, India, and Kazakhstan. As part of a long-term strategy of the brand’s international expansion, Škoda cars are soon to be manufactured in China as well. The jubilee five-millionth car is the new-generation Škoda Octavia type that was launched on the market for the first time in the spring of 2004. The Octavia Estate version and Octavia Estate 4x4 followed in the autumn of 2004 while this model family was completed with a sporty family car, Škoda Octavia RS and Škoda Octavia Estate RS, this year. The Octavia model’s popularity has been proved by sales results while its technological advancement has been acknowledged by experts. The new-generation Škoda Octavia has become the car of the year not only in the Czech Republic, but also in Finland, Great Britain, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ukraine and Serbia and Montenegro. The Škoda Octavia has also won the prestigious “Golden Wheel” and “Auto Trophy” awards, the prestigious “The Most Beautiful Car in the World” title in Italy, and the “Most Beautiful Car of the Year 2005” award in the Czech Republic. This year, the Škoda motor company also commemorates 100 years since the manufacture of the first car and 110 years since the transport means production start in Mladá Boleslav. At the present time, the Škoda cars are sold on 85 markets all over the world, and Škoda Auto’s total output should reach a record-breaking level of 491,000 units of the Škoda Fabia, Octavia Tour, Octavia, and Superb model ranges this year.
