Thumbs up Hot news!!

WOW! the results from adding the halo to Rob Dons car have got to be seen to be believed - to be honest we were a little sceptical as to whether there would be a worthwhile gain from this kit but what a difference!

With the halo switched on during the dyno run the charge temperature dropped by 20 degrees C from 46 degrees C to 26 degrees C at 6200 revs resulting in a power increase of approx 3.5% giving a top end power of 289bhp compared to 278bhp.

With regards to the comments about the high transmission losses it should be noted that Robs car runs larger non standard wheels and sticky race tyres and a competition geometry/allignment settings which will affect the transmission loss figure given by the dyno as it measures the transmission loss when the clutch is dipped at the end of the power run.

If anybody would like to see the car on the dyno feel free to come along to the Seat Enthusiasts rolling road day on Sunday 24th October.

The halo makes a big difference, seen it before

I went a different route and had the mother of all FMICs fitted My charge temp never went above 22 c even with a lot of track time, however I did lose 0.1 bar of boost due to it Having said that the cooling more than made up for it.

The water spray kit I fitted kept the temp under 30 degrees and only worked at injector duty cycle over 60% Very nice system that was too, added benefit was that in winter I disconnected it and used the 5.5l bottle for screenwash

Rob, very impressive figures. Just one Q though isn't it expensive to keep filling the NOS bottle?

What a waste of Nitrous!!!

GET IT INJECTED MATE!!!!!

lol

Some great figures there!

Just a thought, why not fill the bottle with C02? It comes out pretty much as cold and is a fraction of the cost.

That's one of the reasons I went water spray rather than nitrous, water is cheap and easily available (good on track days. Add some methanol to the water for extra cooling (cleans the screen well too )

I used nitrous just for the first time to find out how effective the halo system was plus I knew where to get the bottle filled with nitrous, I will be using CO2 in the future as it's much cheaper and has the same effect (once I find somewhere that sells it!). This was effectively a test session and the results are superb, the halo really works and I'm very happy to have 278BHP all the time and 289BHP when I want it!

hmm, I'll try that in my water spray when it gets warmer

Rob, what's next for your car then?

Rob - that graph looks like one hell of a kick in the back around 3k revs - what's your traction like?

Any chance of a reply to how the K04 is modded? I'm curious to know what has to be done to get 60bhp more than other tuners. It's quite an acheivement. Also how much is it just for the turbo?

I would also like to know this Eddy.
Is there anybody from Star Performance on here that can answer that question?

I'd ask Jim outwith a public forum, perhaps he doesn't want to divulge the specs of his turbos for obvious reasons m8?

Here's some Q and A's I've given some thought to:

Q. Does nitrous get sucked into the air filter?
A. Not really, the airflow through the intercooler forces the nitrous towards the engine, it doesn't just blow everywhere unless you sprayed it standing still with no airflow and the engine running. The air/fuel ratio would go lean if nitrous was sucked into the engine - there was no evidence of this occuring.

Q. Will it harm the intercooler?
A. By frosting up the intercooler with nitrous ... it would be little different to starting your car up on a frosty morning.

Q. Is nitrous expensive?
A. Yes, to fill my 10lb bottle it cost £50. But, you can use C02 as a much cheaper alternative and have the same effect, C02 would be around £20 to fill the 10lb bottle.

Q. Can I use this on my stock side intercooler?
A. Not adviseable no, because the end tanks are plastic and will crack.

Q. How long will a 10lb bottle last?
A. Around 3 minutes, but the spray is only around 3-4 secs per spray, so you should get around 30 shots which is quite alot really.

Q. Where can I buy the kit, how much was it?
A. Nemesis Performance, the 10lb kit was £332, I also bought a pressure gauge and bottle insulating jacket, to monitor and maintain stable bottle pressure, an additional £130 for those two items.

I'm happy to answer any more questions, hopefully I've covered the main ones.

What obvious reasons? As a potential customer I'd like to know the spec and price before commiting to a purchase.

You can't think why a tuner who faces daily competition wouldn't want to hand out technical info that may give him an edge over his rivals ... c'mon! What's wrong with emailing or phoning Jim direct if you're in such a hurry for answers?

No offence intended m8, trying to be nice here, but it seems logical to me, personally I don't know the specs of his hybrid turbos.

He has a hybrid fitted to Barry's Fabia vRS which is making 215BHP!

Surely if that were the case then the so called other tuners would just buy one then pull it to pieces?
Theres nothing wrong with giving basic details on a forum.

Guys if you wanted specific info on a product from me.. I would say PM me the questions and i will PM you the answers.

I would not expect you to ask me to post it openly where competitors / rivals could see it.

Now knock it off
