Default Acid #8 1k Etch Primer for chrome grill

has anyone got any thoughts of using this to prime the chrome grill on a mkii ocatavia after its had a light sanding with wet n dry?

the link to it is below and its what has been recommended by the technical chaps at painst4u.com. Ive had a go of stripping the chrome with some over cleaner which didnt really work plus i havent got a container big enough to leave the grill in bleach which was suggested on another thread.

My Fabia one was just painted over after sanding which seemed ok. I happen to know there is a black one being painted this week and I'm sure the owner will make comment if he sees this.

I sanded mine down and then painted it first with primer, then with black. Worked fine.

I probably didn't make my first post that clear. I was primed with normal body painting primer, but not acid etched AFAIK.

I have heard that if you leave the chromed plastic in bleach for a couple of days the chrome flakes off and leaves the plastic, not tried it personally though so disclaimer applies

Sandblasting apparently works a treat - if you have a compressor a basic sandblasting nozzle isnt very expensive....

mine was acid etch primed before it was sprayed.
my first attempt was to sand thoroughly , prime (normal grey stuff) then spray the colour. this peeled off with the first sight of a pressure washer.
so i gave it to my body shop mate and he did it properly, year on an no problems

thanks beedie. ive actually sandblasted it now but its not something id advise after doing it. the back of the grill comes off at the first sign of the grit down to the bare plastic. great i thought, this should be a doddle. a long time later and the front was finally done but i think i may have taken a few mm off the plastic in the attempt to get the chrome off. The back seems to be one coat but the front seems to be several which doesnt come off easy with the blaster. it just seems to blister which you then have to peel off which is a feckin nightmare. ho hum, you live and learn. now its down to bare plastic im going to see if any of the bodyshops in the area can spray it for me or I may be brave and get some paint, laquere and plastic primer from paints4u.com.

oh, the other thing is that after the thick chrome is off the part loses some of it stiffness so is a bit more wobbly now. hopefully when the black grill is attached it will be stiff enough and ok.

pics hopefully to follow once its sprayed

The method i used was, Put in 5l of bleech for 3 days till all chrome goes black.

then with the sand blaster on its lowest setting give the grill a once over. The chrome just blisters as the sand hits and by leaving it in bleech its really soft so just peals off.
