Default Just bought a porter cable :8)

Just got one of these lovely machines off eBay.

Not tried it yet as waiting for the transformer and adapter.

At the moment I have some Poorboys professional polish and Collinite 915 wax. I presume both of these are suitable with the PC?

Does anyone know what strength the Poorboys polish is - useful for fine or intermediate swirls?

Can anyone recommend any other products to go with the PC? I don't have bad swirls in my car but my mates do who both have VW's (black and blue).

Also, if anyone in the Midlands wants to use the PC on their car, then PM me and we can arrange a date (freedom members only please ). I'll help wash and polish for a nominal fee.

Cheers,

Jon.

I also have a PC and the Poorboys SSR range of polishes.

For VAG paint, forget using the SSR's if you want to get rid of swirls (they're fine after you've sorted the main swirls and scratches out)...

Get yourself some 3M Perfect It III Fine Compound. It works ace on VAG paint.

Also, make sure you get some Quick Detailing Spray (I use Sonus), to prep your pads before and during use.

Not sure what pads yours came with, but I got the decent Sonus ones and they work great.

Good luck!

Below is a copy of an email I got from Rich at polished bliss when I asked for advice on what to get for my vRS

"Hi Derek,

good to hear from you, that's a nice kit! I really like the Menzerna range; finishing off with FMJ after a coat of Finishing Touch Glaze really seems to bring out the depth in the colour whilst still allowing the flake to pop when the sun is out. The choice of polishes depends on the severity of any defects; if you have swirls and fine scratches then Menzerna Intensive Polish is a good place to start, if you just have fine swirls then Final Polish II may just do the job. All that said, if you have serious swirls then sometimes Power Gloss is required if you want to fully correct the paint, but the truth is it's hard to know before you start, which is why Intensive Polish is a safe bet. Good news is that FMJ is still on special offer until the end of tomorrow, so get in quick if you want some!

Just for reference, here's a guide to using the Intensive Polish and Final Polish II. Both of these products should be used as follows: place a cross on the pad, dab across the work area (third of a bonnet, half a door, etc) with the machine off, then spread at speed 1 with no pressure, then work in progressively at speed 4 using light to moderate pressure (spritzing with water if the product begins to dry) until the residue starts to turn clear, then make a final couple of passes at speed 5 and buff off using a super thick n plush towel.

Hope that helps, any more questions fre away, always happy to help.

Cheers

Rich"

TBH i think its swings and round a abouts really.

Just read the detailing world forum and it will make your head spin with the amount of info on there.

Just get some products which are recommended and see if you like them or not

The Menzerna range are very good for the ceramic clear coats.

Just remember to always start with the least abrassive polish with the lightest of cutting pads first and then work your way down from there with the compounds.
