New Car.................Silver Seal

I need some advice please.

I am picking up my brand spanking new Octy II Vrs this weekend and the dealer is pusing "Silver Seal". This is to supposedly "teflon treat"my external paintwork and "scotchguard" my internal fabrics. They are quoting £300 for this.

Now I have a very young family, so spending hours cleaning the car on a regular basis is just not going to happen.

The big Q is: Is this a good idea and value for money, or should i go somewhere else for this, getting someone else to do a better job?

Having read further in this section, answered my own question - don't bother - just follow the clean method!

I'd say that some of the interior protections can be worthwhile, but on the exterior if you wash your car from time to time and wax it you are better off spending that money on good products.

Get a couple cans of Scotchguard and do the interior yourself for around 12 quid!

dont know about silver seal, but we use supagard and if you dont have the time to wash, dry, polish, wax etc etc then its worth the money imoa.

i know these products have been discussed before but if applied correctly then they do work. its not for everyone. i wouldnt put it on my vectra as i take some perverse pleasure in polishing it every chance i get!

but if i didnt have the chance i would certainly get it done.

with most of the products they will warranty it in case it fails or causes issues. you also get other bits and bobs too. our supagard pack consists on the valeters pack, a customer bag full of cleaning products for getting rid of bird poop, cleaing the alloys etc etc, plus key finder service for a year and a discount card too! use this and it is quiet possible to reclaim the inital cost of the pack by discounts alone.

its also been noted that supagard (as with most of these products) dont sell their stuff to anyone out of the trade, so if you do buy some off ebay to try a bit of DIY then more than likely the products are effectively stolen or out of date, but generally dodgy! also its worth remembering they need to be put on and left to dry in a cool environment out of direct sunlight. AND the chemicals are hazodous and need care when applying!
