Default The Old Man's Jag

Detailed my Dad's X-Type on Saturday, with the aim of restoring it to showroom condition, while giving it some lasting protection.

So, Jag X-Type 3.0SE AWD auto - goes quite well actually

Was pretty mucky to start with, having endured a fair few miles since the last wash, including some trips into muddy fields; he will experiment with the 4WD drive won't he?

So, started with a coating of Snowfoam and let that soak in for a few minutes, to break down the top layer of grime. That was applied via Karcher, then powered off with a standard pressure lance.

Then shampooed with AutoGylm conditioner shampoo, with Meg's lambswool washmitt and the two bucket method. Bodywork rinsed down with a normal pressure hose. Then dried with Meg's water magnet.

When dry, I moved to Meg's Claybar and QD spray. Bodywork dried down after each panel with a Poorboy's MF towel.

Moved on then to the PorterCable. There weren't that many swirls or scratches really, nothing requiring major correction anyway, so I spot corrected a few problem areas with an orange Lake Country 6.5" pad and some Mezerna Intensive Polish. I then used a white pad and Final Polish II on the whole car. Each panel was wiped down with a damp microfibre cloth, before moving to the next.

Klasse All-in-One sealant was then used to seal in the work of the polish. Still amazed each time at this product. So easy to use - the whole car was done in 5 minutes then left to cure for a further 30. During which time I applied some Meg's Endurance Tyre Gloss, via a Dragon heavy duty applicator pad.

After the sealant was buffed off, with a large Meg's MF work towel, I moved to wax. I went for two coats here, starting with some Meg's Gold Class liquid. Applied via Meg's applicator pad, then buffed the entire vehicle with another large Meg's work towel. I finished with a coat of Collinite 476S. Again, applied to whole vehicle before buffing off with the Meg's work towel.

Back to looking how it should, I think. See what you think - pics attached. All comments welcome. I really like the colour and I think the above process has brought good level of shine and gloss.

Thanks for reading
Cheers,
Steve

As long as they're on-topic, yes!

Well, you've got to give something back haven't you? I think so anyway...

Cheers,
Steve

Top job mate, l'd imagine it's a fairly difficult colour to match products with? Presume you just treat it as silver in terms of what products work best?

Yeah, it does suffer, to some extent, from the 'lack of definition' issue that makes silver so difficult to get good shine and gloss from.

It responded well to the Meg's last time, so that's why I decided to use it again. 476 over the top should then provide decent long-lasting protection, and some nice beading to boot

Fairly quick one this mate, in the scheme of things - think the clock stopped at just over 5.5 hours

No major correction and only once round with the PC brought the time down...

My only comment would be that the wheels look too shiny if that's at all possible ! But then I am picky !

Too shiny? Is that possible?!

Do you mean the alloys or the tyres?
