I noticed him using a sponge and liberally sweeping the paintwork with it, which unless I am mistaken, is a primary cause of swirl marks. However, I guess if you're then using a mechanical polisher to polish them all out immediately afterwards it wouldn't matter too much, although I can't but help thinking how many of his washes would be needed before the paint is worn away?

Have you been through the detailing thread where he does the Veyron? He corrects a scratch with wet sanding!

I think he uses a clay sponge?
Like they said though the products he uses cost a fortune and sometimes it takes a couple of days to do a full detail like that

i think its a zymol sponge which has a tighter structure than normal sponges and is quite soft. Havent a clue as to why it wont cause swirls though

I've known far too many "Professionals" in a number of trades that do worse job than I could have done. Don't discount the knowledge of an enthusiast.
