Default VW's offical swirl removal method

Found this in a workshop CD I have, erm, *acquired*

Interesting as I use Perfect It rather than Finese It (which is machine only, afaik) and Imperial Hand Glaze, but this seems a different approach. Has anyone used glass cleaner the way they recommend to their technicians - I've never heard of that before...

Deek.

Technical solution
Problem description
Scuff marks/holograms (3D reflections) in the top coat

Cause
Reworking of dirt inclusions through polishing work.

Production solution
Gradual introduction of an optimised polishing process at all the plants.
From 07.00

Service solution
The following materials and equipment is needed (all 3M products and equipment to be sourced locally):

• Electric polishing machine with a revolution speed of 1800 rpm.
• Dual Action (D/A) Sanding/Polishing Machine with (ideally) an 8 –10 mm eccentric action.
• 3M sponge Finesse - it - 3M 09550
• 3M sponge Finesse - it - 3M 09378
• 3M polish Finesse - it - 3M 09374
• 3M polish Finesse - it - 3M 09376
• 3M Glass cleaner - 3M 08631
• 3M High Performance Polish Cloths

Proceed as follows:

• Thoroughly wash and dry vehicle to remove all dirt and grit particles.
• Mask adjoining surfaces to reduce subsequent cleaning.
• Polish surface following guidelines published by 3M in the 3M Perfect-it 3 ‘Perfection in Paint Rectification and Finishing’ information brochure available from your local 3M supplier.

• To confirm the removal of marks, clean surface between polishing operations with 3M Glass Cleaner 08631. This will remove any ‘filling’ of the scratches by polish and expose remaining scratch marks.

• Carry out a visual check under sunlight or with a halogen lamp.

If the scuff mark is not completely removed, repeat the procedure.
