Default Briskoda randomly becoming unavailable

For the last few weeks every night I've been on between 19:00 and 21:00 at least once Briskoda has just disappeared off the internet. I thought it was maybe my end but at my sisters I had the same thing happen, and she uses a different OS, and browser (IE v6 *shudder*) to me.

I can only describe it as disappearing as I click on a link, or next page of a thread etc. and, after about 30 seconds, I get the page can't be displayed message. Doesn't matter if I click a different link or refresh the page I have to shut my browser down (Mozilla Firefox if it matters) and start again.

I've had no trouble during the day. Is anyone else having the same issue?

No problems here, and I am on here all evening. Maybe its the ISP being over subscribed causing timeouts to occur.

Yes same here at 8pm tonight

Clicked on the 3rd page of 4 and nothing happened.....the page just froze and I had to exit the site?

It's saying I last visited at 19:56 even though I logged out I have not had to sing back in just now when I came back

I was still able to view other web pages in my bookmarks but not Briskoda?

Just went down again, however, managed to get an error message saying the server was too busy. Anyone else effected?

The message you get is a protection message. The server gets n-requests and generates load. If unchecked the load will spiral out of control and then yes, bad things will occur.

I'm reviewing a couple of options to mitigate this, but the server does remain up. So when the load drops back down, it will become available. Which might be your next page click or 5 minutes if everyone else is clicking like mad.

It does seem to be triggered mostly in the evenings, indicating sheer traffic and disk access. As both webserver and database are on the same box, when a page loads there are two processes; actually considerably more as each image is a request. If these events coincide with a search engine; there is little we can do. Except the afore mentioned options, both require a new hardware build or re-build and I suspect both will be presented with a new look briskoda.

Hope that helps.

Not hosting attachments wouldn't be of detriment to the site at all imho, perhaps thats not a bad idea.
